Hire Purchase of Car with wrong Vehicle Reg on Documents

did you not notice when you put the reg in for the insurance that it was the wrong car ? only asking becuase when getting quotes for our new car this morning i put two letters the wrong way around and it was totally different car .
This is less likely when buying a new car from a major dealer, basically they'll get a shipment of, say, 50 Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDi's and they'll send the paperwork for them down to the DVLA as a job lot who will process them all in one job lot, and receive a bunch of sequential reg numbers, eg. SC09AAA, SC09AAB .. SC09ABX back, and thus getting one letter out is highly likely to get you an identical car just in a different colour.0 -
Mistakes happen, the very fact its taken you 6months to realise means it was probably a easy one to make.
Let arnold clark change the plates and if applicable get them to pay any administration fees your insurance company have charged you.
Apart from that get over it.0 -

Listen, if your not here to help then keep your opinions to yourself. Ok! And for your information all the documents were signed before we seen the car as it was brand new. So before posting idiotic replies then engage your brain before opening your mouth!!!0 -

People make mistakes, They are only human, At the end of the day you still got the same car, just the wrong number plates.
Isn't that if the car was in an accident. I'm sure the police wouldnt be so understanding. It's funny how your saying get over it but the police who i have gone to see and a lawyer are taking the manner very seriously indeed. So thank you for all the members who have had helpful things to say. Unlike a few others!0 -

The police have seen this more than you think and would have been understanding had you crashed it.
So what are the police doing about it?
Nothing, thats why you've seen a solicitor and I bet he's so interested in justice being done for you he's taken the job on free.

Get the paperwork sorted and move on, it's not worth stressing over.;)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I want some sort of compensation for this. Now if i had been stopped by the police i could have been in serious trouble. So by law arnold clark has committed a crime by doing this. Should i contact the police?
They made a small mistake and as has been suggested they should cover any costs to sort it out (number plates and insurance admin). You might also be able to squeeze a small goodwill gesture if you are lucky. Apart from that you are due nothing.
You seem to be trying to make a buck out of this, is that what you really want?0 -

Arnold Clark committed a crime by putting number plates on a car with the incorrect registration on it. That’s why the police have said to me, regardless whether it was a mistake or not, that it was still illegal. The policewomen i talked to said that if I was in an accident and this came up then it would be me, that would be liable. So as for a "It was only a Small Mistake" Hintza. Yes it was a small mistake, but one that could have had enormous consequences for myself. Thankfully i spotted it in time but does that mean i shouldn't be angry and demand that something is done about this. After all i could have been a totally different story. Considering i am training to be a Adi, this "Small mistake" could have ruined my new career. So obviously you do not know what you are talking about. I am going on advice from the police and a legal professional. (Who by the way IS doing it free considering he's my brother in law!) And as for signing for a car before it was seen, the finance documents were signed the same day I enquired about the new car and decided to buy it and so was the rest of the paperwork. BTW They don't keep brand new cars at the dealership, the car came directly from Arnold Clarks holding garage in Linwood, Paisley a few days later. So I am guessing some of you haven't bought a brand new car before. As you obviously haven't a clue how it works. It isn't as if the car was sitting in the showroom. and I just didn't look at it. The reg is only one digit out so it wouldn't even be that noticeable on day even if it was sitting in the showroom. What you are all forgetting is that I was the one paying a hell of a lot of money for the car. SO included in this price should the guarantee that the car is legal to drive away from the dealership! Am I correct? Yes I sure am. And for people saying I seem to be trying to make a quick buck from this. I do not want the car for free or anything stupid like that but I should receive a goodwill gesture as compensation for all the inconvenience caused. For example a half price service. As for this website I thought it was full of people who wanted to help and advise, but I now know that this is not the case, there only seems to be a few who want to help (and I thank them for this) but the majority seem to jump to conclusions before understanding things completely and make very cheeky, untrue and quite slanderous remarks. Well out of order.0
