I've had a little search too but I can't find it, but at least this will bump it up the page for you.

    Good luck :)

    Hi LilacLillie,

I'm not sure if this is it but it's the only one I can think of at the moment:

how do other mums to little ones manage?

If you can remember any more details about the thread let me know and I'll look again.

  • I vaguely remember such a thread, was it all about pampering yourself? ie run a bath - use up some freebie face packs etc??

No, it was about a couple having to stay in /at home more to save money, asking what they could do to entertain themselves for free or near enough to free, evenings & weekends.
Sorry its taken so long to reply forgot about this post but have an idea for them.

Lots of nice walks now that the light evenings are here.
    Board games
Jigsaw puzzles with lots of pieces!
    Doing crosswords together
TV, obviously but also radio programmes (when we were skint and tired of the TV we really got into one of these local "late night love" advice phone-in programs -bit sad I know but we liked it!)
    Making cakes or biscuits
Picnics and walks at the weekend
Setting the table and having a nice meal at home (take it in turns to cook, or one does main course, the other does pudding)

My fave is to get a fire going in the garden, tea lights sprinkled round, a couple of drinks and nibbles, looking into the fire getting warm and gentle chatter. If you have kids they love it too, get em some marshmallows to toast. I do this any time of the year. Bear in mind that you stink after it so will need a bath or a shower.
Who would like my last penny?

    Here are my ideas :

    Evenings:
Take advantage of the freebie trial online dvd rental - LoveFilm and Blockbuster do these, you can try for a few weeks, just remember to cancel direct debit card details. We did this a few years ago when theyre were loads of companies (lots have merged) and had a good few months of free dvds.

Join Blockbuster and rent dvds with nectar points (250 nectar points worth £2.50 gets you a £3.95 rental at Blockbuster). Also they send Free Rental vouchers every so often, Hubby and I have different account so we got a voucher each sent. One of the filmswe rented was all jumpy and scratchd at the end so we complained and got a free credit, but we had basically seen all the film bar one minute that was wonly half an hour from the end. So with the 2 vouchers and the credit we got 3 rentals for free.

Board games - scrabble, trivial pursuit etc

Make dinner en event with candles and sit down at a proper table and chat! (we never do this LOL)

    Weekends :
Walks and picnics, tennis at local municipal courts ? Trip to library ? Keep eyes out for money off swimming etc vouchers in lcal papers or at local lesiure centre, 2 for 1, that sort of thing.

Bike rides if you have bikes ?

Local carnivals/spring fayres, catch the train if you can to make a day out, take along a picnic, and enjoy the atmosphere without buying anything.

Go to car boots, wonderful to see what carp people are flogging and hopefully if you buy anything its cheap!

    Hope these help,

  • I'm not sure if this is the right board to post on but i've been looking everywhere on this site for suggestions on things to do for free or for a small ammount of money.
I'm running out of ideas for things to do at weekends apart from going on walks, but due to the horrible rainy weather we have been stuck indoors watching tv. Surely theres something better we can do without paying a fortune, if you have any suggestions I would greatly appriciate them

    Thanks in advance
