Break at Home - Ideas please?

Hi all!
I have a very strange request:
I'm leaving home shortly, and OH and I have decided that cos we'll both be shattered from it, we need a bit of a break (I'm changing jobs around the same time - yup, I'm crazy)
But cos we're buying a house etc, we'll be a bit skint. So we decided an extreme MoneySaving thing would be to have a holiday at home for 2 or 3 days.
So: I'm after inspiration for 1 or 2 really nice romantic meals (i've looked here already but am still struggling.)
And just any other tips really. Has anyone ever done this?
Thought maybe a cheap bottle of bubbly might help. A nice meal or 2 and a few lie ins (maybe brekki in bed like in the Valentines thread).
But any ideas would be appreciated, I'm a bit lost...
(BG -*meekly* move me if I'm in the wrong spot - sorry)

visit https://www.flylady.com and look at the info on dat e night... this may have some fab ideas.
Also have you got tesco club card vouchers? Could you exchange them for vouchers for a meal out? me and hubby went to cambridge and only shelled out about £10 a night on drinks and paid for the rest in tesco vouchers, all prebooked in advance. Nothing to stop you doing the same from home.

Slave for a day - take it in turns to be a slave for a day pampering to the others every whim (obviously some ground rules need to be established), but could be good fun....be nice to the slave if you go first because it's your turn next......

Think *Theme*!!!! You’re young, you are a couple and you have imagination …
Go to your local travel agents and pic up the relevant destination brochures to inspire you.
Decorate a room in posters/flags/bunting appropriate for your chosen theme.
Check out some websites which give ideas on dinner party themes to inspire you on the food front. Dinner party theme ideas can be found here http://entertaining.about.com/od/dinnerparties/Dinner_Parties.htm (remember, it’s for inspiration)
Borrow some appropriate music/films from your local library with your chosen theme in mind.
For example, suppose you chose Hawaii as your chosen destination, you could make a sarong each (very easy! http://www.cottonwoodhotel.com/sarong.html ) and a paper lei, borrow a cd with Hawaiian music, hire/borrow a movie with a Hawaiian flavour to it and the web is a wealth of ideas when it comes to food (http://www.hawaii.edu/recipes/ ) Learn a couple of phrases http://www.alohafriendsluau.com/words.html
Each of you could be given total control of one day of a fantasy island each. One day you choose (and prepare) the theme and in the morning, blindfold your partner and start with a themed breakfast and see how long he takes to guess his destination.
Perhaps that is just too much for your personality types, then perhaps being a tourist in your own town would feel more comfortable. Go to your local tourist information centre for inspiration and ideas for free or low cost activities/attractions locally. Check out the library for leaflets with money off vouchers included.
You know one another best, you know what you both enjoy. If snuggling up in bed all day doing nothing is more your style, then …. Just do it!!!

Are there any nice health/fitness clubs nearby with a pool and sauna.
You could ring and make enquiries as to joining and ask if they do a 'trial day'.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Hi all!
Many thanks - some really good ideas there. I'd've never have thought have Hawaii or going for a 'sample day' at the leisure club...
I like indoor picnic too... I'm now trying to imagine an indoor hawaiian picnic before swimming...
I think I need to make a decision... oh dear...
You guys are lovely!0 -
we always find that a cooked breakfast makes us feel like we're on holiday
bonus for me is that OH usually makes it! you could just unplug the phone and turn the mobiles off and not use the internet too, as a way of pretending you're away and unreachable. we also play games and watch dvds, sounds dull but can be a way of relaxing together. when we go on hols we tend to go out walking in the day and stay in quite a few evenings, with nice food or a take away. recently on hols we watched the whole two series of the office over a few nights. hey!
OH and I are homebods really. I like baking bread and making chutney. He likes cuddles and long walks...
We're dreadfully old fashioned although very young (I'm 21) But you're right, the mobiles and the phone are a bit of a ball and chain.
I fancied cooking 3 courses one night, and takeaway another... best of both worlds...
Now then...
how's about:
cherry tomatoes roasted with garlic and olive oil on toasted ciabatta (bruscetta?)
chicken. mushroom and mange tout rissotto
eton mess type dessert in large wine glasses
with Cava of some sort?0 -
Sounds brilliant :T :T wouldn't keep you strapped to the kitchen for too long and Cava is definately a moneysaving option to champagne

Pity to put the oven on simply to roast some cherry toms though
Hope you're being a thoroughly modern girl and delegating one of the days for him to sort out! Otherwise, it will all seem like hard work on *you* and you won't feel as if you've had a holiday of any kind - besides, it will add to the excitement

Our local college has a catering section which runs a restaurant. We can get a four course meal, with coffees and hand made chocolates for around £17 per head.
