Passing The hours

Hi,
With money being tight at the moment, and the weather not so clever for being out and about, esp in the evenings, i'm looking for some old style ways for dd and I to pass the evenings. we have a couple of hours most nights together after tea and before bed, and we are finding it hard amusing ourselves, as we would usually go for a drive, visit friends etc, and i'm on rationing with everything, esp petrol, so i need some ideas for things to do at home. my first thought was baking, but theres only so much baked stuff we can eat, lol, even though it freezes.
Has anyone any other ideas for ways to pass the hours, without us having to resort to the TV?
Many many thanks
woas.

you could spend an evening listening to CDs you haven't played for a while if you have them (or LPs if you're as old as me!)
Get some library books & enjoy a good read for free
Listen to the radio & do some crosswords or puzzles (depending on DDs age of course!)
Do some painting or drawing

Hi there,
I make all of the greetings cards we send through the year, but of course I do it with economy in mind so I spend an evening every now and then going through magazines/newspapers/junk mail etc and cut out any pictures or patterns or fancy lettering which I could use to make greetings cards with. I can then cut them out and make cards like you might make a collage.
Or how about each of you picking out your 10 favourite songs (on cd) or 10 favourite passages from books or 10 favourite video clips (sorry that's tv) and sharing them...
It's a great time of year to plant out seeds in seed trays if you want to grow herbs on your windowsill or if you have a garden flowers/veggies etc. Any seed packs left over from last year that need planting out? If you don't have any seed trays you could use food packaging...I use old mushroom boxes.

We're in a very similar boat atm, board games, baking, planning what to grow for next season in the garden, making jewellery from stuff knocking around the house and having a good clear out to sell all the crap we don't need on ebay.My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.

Tetris on the computer is always a big time killer for me but not very productive I'm afraid (until people wonder how you managed to stack your freezer so efficiently)

Pull a second chair up to the computer and enter some competitions. I frequently grab my DS for help

The plus side is that if you enter enough you could end up with some lovely prizes.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
