I have just emptied my dog money box (Arthur) of his £2 coin stash. He was looking after £140. I also emptied the piggy (unnamed) I keep on my kitchen worktop of his contents. I just empty my purse of 1p, 2p and 5p coins at regular intervals into him. He had £5.40 in him. I put the 40p back and have bagged up the rest £145 in total to take to the bank. I have a One Account too, so the sooner I pay it in the better.

At the end of this month I will owe £59k so I aim to pay off as much as possible as quickly as possible. My son leaves his private primary school next July so I will then have an extra £500 a month  to pay off my mortgage. That should start to make a big dent!

I took my eye off the ball a bit recently and my outstanding balance went up so I need to stay on top now. I'll be feeding Arthur and the pig regularly from now on.

Had a look inside Mavis the cow today and procured £30! That's going into paying back the overdraft, as is the £50 from Rpoints that's due come December the 2nd...

Sadly Mavis is now empty of pretty much everything except coppers. Time to start from scratch again!

teeb.. don't you find it warmly reassuring to see Mavis empty and ready to be refilled.. it makes me feel all warm and fluffy inside to know I have paid off a few more £'s

Though I have just spent the last 2 hours bumping up my debts doing the last bits of christmas shopping.. I intend finishing that tomorrow!!.. Apart from my stepdads cheese!! Yes I am buying him cheese for christmas.. I am doing him a basket of smelly things and am getting him some stinky bishops really smelly cheese so go with his bottle of whisky (that stinks!) his bottle of aftershave (that stinks too!) selection of chillis and peppers (v smelly) and a pair of socks.. they may not stink yet.. but they will!! I am wrapping them all sweetly in a new wok and giving him those. Mad gift but he will love it!

I have almost £70 this month to go in the bank.. plus £6 of postal orders i just found in my diary and a couple of little cheques and £187 from ebay!!!

  • It's been ages since I posted on this thread but I'm still here. We have over £300 ready to pay off mortgage. (need £500 a time). With Decembers money and the regular £100 extra we are starting to pay in January I'm confident we can start the ball rolling before February. I'm aiming for £2000 extra paid off next year:T

    Hello to everyone.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

  • I have been watching this website for a while now and after recommending it to all my friends, decided it was time to join. Today I have plucked up the courage to make my first post and now, as I have been totally inspired by the 'mortgage pig', thought I would make a second post of the day :T .

I have gone into overdrive with the saving pigs! I have roped in my 3 year old and my husband into making these paper mache pigs. My first will be for the mortgage, second for a new car and the third will be for my daughters savings - as they are never to young to start! At the moment they have taken over the airing cupboard as the first layer of mache dries.

Ive just had my second daughter and had decided not to return to work due to the cost of childcare and the issue of was it worth the little pay I would end up with - but I see from other members encouragement to saving -that a little can go a long way - so its back to work for me (although I am lucky only to work part time) !

We have a small 3 bed house, a some what small £69,000 mortgage in comparison to others but its a lot to me. We decreased the term of the mortgage and have overpaid by £2,500 this year which leaves us 11 years 6 months. We stuggle but manage with 1 car and although our girls dont go without, generally we are careful with money. Thanks to this site I have switch gas/electric/phone/water to maintain low bills.

I have recently managed to save money on utility bills by buying timer switches for the washing machine/tumble dryer and dishwasher. Electricity is cheaper during the night so why not wash then! :o

My main problem now, is that I get so caught up with the chat forum, i dont get my house work done and need a cleaner!

Anyhow, back to work means cash for the mortgage pig and the bigger the pig gets the sooner I can give up work - thats what I keep telling myself :rotfl:

My Question: Before the money pig, I had a chinese cat with a raised left paw money box. As far as I know this is good luck for wealth and fortune. The thing is, is that the cat is now full and the money could be banked but would this be bad luck to empty the cat? Is it worth the risk ???

Flossie my Mortgage pig (sheep) has had a name change, she has become Flossie the Baby Sheep as I have found out I'm pregnant and we are using the change it her to save for all the bits and pieces we'll need for the baby when it arrives in August. She will be changed back when baby arrives.

November produced £22.86, not as much as previous months, but every little helps.
