  • I've had another nose in the loft and found a few more things to sell!
If you have a look on www.topsecretrecipes.com you should find copycat recipes to make sauces from mcdonalds or burger king if your kids fancy a takeaway at home! On www.hillbillyhousewife.com there are lots of recipes, there are rice mixes you can make and store in ziplok bags that are like the rice mixes you buy in packets and lots of moneysaving ideas for food. I've tried quite a few of the recipes and they all seem to go down well! More money for the pig!! I usually do a big shop every 6 weeks and then spend between £10 and £20 a week on fresh foods. So about £30 to £40 a week in total. It also cuts down on time and petrol! I can spend more time on here then!! I've got down to about £20 a week on petrol for everything! My outlaws are starting to think I print money!

    Hi H-Q

Thanks for the sites will look them up later tonight. I have surpassed myself today with forward thinking. I read on one of the boards, menu planning I think, that you can plan leftovers for meals the next day so I did extra roast potatoes and I have 2 leftover sausages and some gravy so I will do a variation on shepherds pie :D That reminds me.... sorry about that just had to go and get the mince out of the freezer :rotfl:

I can't wait for the day the shopping bill goes down, about £100 weekly for 2 adults, two children, a dog and a weekend visitor every fortnight
Never mind big cook & freeze this week, storecupboard challenge next week and that should be enough incentive to keep it going, that and coming to MSE to see whats new/old :D

  • The store cupboard challenge is really good. I went a week and the only thing I bought was some milk and apples, everything else we had.

This mortgage pig really works....i spent a whopping £75 on boots yesterday  (with offer to get £10 worth of points, and via quidco for cashback and free p+P) and got a load of nappies, and tons of reduced goods (Toni and Guy hairdryers etc) for christmas presents. BUT i felt so guilty-kept thinking of what that £75 could have done in the mortgage pig....so i have decided, as i have nearly finished my christmas shopping now, i will use the £40 a month i save for christmas, to go into the pig at the end of the year. So this will be £480 i can pay in, in november.

This has helped to ease my conscience!:D
Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞
  • Good for you! I do get guilty if i don't feed pigsty enough!
I got my statement through today and I squeaked in at the 77K instead of going from 79 to 78, I know i only just did it but feels like an achievement, aiming for 76K now for October!

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
