Hi to all
Have often seen the term "mortgage pig" on the site and have never given it much thought until today.
This afternoon I was busy ironing when who pops up on telly stuffing money into a clear plastic pig, You guessed it. The great MSE himself.
Must of been one of my less senior moments as bells rang, and I looked at my mortgage statement which by cance had arrived this morning and I had just stuck in a pile of stuff to look at.
Have been overpaying/claimed misselling compo/offsetting etc for a couple of years. I have noever really given it much thought. What do I find when I look at the statement we have paid off an extra £9,965.43 pence, well I had to make it up to the £10k didn't I.
Just spend a very profitable hour going through this thread and will be on the search for a pig.
Feel really inspired by everyones stories, so I would like to thank everyone.
Please be paitent with me after all I am a Mortgage Pig Virgin

Hi mum1964! You don't have to get a pig - there are a wide variety of animals on here!
I wish I'd overpaid that much already!
I've joined the september ebay challenge so hoping to put some more in pigsy (very original name for mine!)!!0 -
Thats great kiwi, it all adds up even if you end up using the tax credits while its been in there its help to lower the interest.0

Thanks I can't believe I haven't thought about all this before  Thank goodness for this site and it's inspirational people and their ideas
However better late than never and I won't touch the tax credits if I can possibly help it. Convincing dh might be another matter has anyone got a calculator maybe if I show him in £s he'll be more willing :rotfl: :rotfl:MFiT Member No 85

H-Q you are truly a Queen
I found and used the calculator and by overpaying the £70 monthly we will knock 4yrs and, wait for it, £17000, yes £17000 off the morgage :j
I showed dh and he was well impressed especially as he didn't have to do anything  Still a way to go there then
Still at least dd 8yrs and ds 5yrs are with me 100%. ds on a day trip out said if we couldn't afford to buy them icecreams he would pay for them out of his piggy money :AMFiT Member No 85

Awww, shucks!!!
The trouble is its addictive! Now you know £70 a month knocks off four years, I bet you see how much £100 a month will knock off!!
Your kids sound lovely!
Have you joined pigsback, i've spent nothing and just entered the comps and clicked the piggypoint clickthru's and I've now just ordered my fifth ten pound voucher. We use them at brewers fayre or pizza hut, so you could take the kids out and it wouldn't cost much and they can get lots to eat if you go for the kids pizza hut buffet! You have to look on the 'only things you do' thread in moneysaving old style to learn the pizza hut salad bar shuffle!
I'm also starting a bit of xmas shopping, I have gardening mad rellies and as all the gardening stuff is now heavily reduced in the stores and diy places I'm going to get some for their xmas prezzies! Really want to do xmas on a budget this year, I don't mind spending out on my kids but I don't like going overboard for nayone else - except mr HQ of course!0 -

Yes I have joined pigsback checking the MSE forum everydayand am on 760 points but can't seem to get anymore points without spending some money but I have several offers which I could shop with so we'll see
Also have Percy, of course, he's for silver and a whiskey jar, that's for copper wonder what I could use for gold :rotfl:
Have put into practice several money saving tips re cleaning materials and electricity saving and am utilising the Tescos code forum as we have decided to shop online for basics 3 out of 4 weeks
We also have a friday farmers market in town so I'll be checking that out this week. Am also going to batch cook this week and freeze using recycled chinese take away containers to freeze it in :rotfl:
You are totally right it is completely addictive. All this and I've really only started looking at MSE last week. Makes me think how much more I could save she says looking around :rotfl:MFiT Member No 85
