Got my pigsback.com piggy bank in the post today. Going to give the bank a ring in the next couple of days to start to overpay the 10% I'm allowed with my fixed rate mortgage. It finishes at the end of November and thanks to another thread I posted I'm going to try to do as much as I can with my 'house' money in decorating and refurbishment as possible and then come December hopefully I can use the whole amount to overpay...!
  • Great idea. We had a similar idea a few months ago and bought a fruit machine for our play room thinking that it'd make saving fun. Bonus was that I didn't realise how many friends and family would also chuck loose change when they visited. (i just hope it continues to be meagre on the payouts  ).
  • You'll have to empty it before they come round raynsie!!!!!!!!

Herman's looking forward to Friday.....it's payday. (Thank God!) This has been a looooong month.

My car boot funds ended up going towards buying a new tumble dryer instead of repair costs and not a penny went to Herman.

Might have a bigger problem to worry about though......buildings inspector chappie coming out today as we have cracks between our walls and ceilings. The plaster cove hides a lot of it but we just found out last night that the crack in our airing cupboard (where there is no cove) is half an inch wide!

So much for paying off the mortgage. :undecided We might now be the proud (huh!) outright owners of a house that's about to fall down.

Wonder how much bed & breakfast is these days?

  • It may not be as bad as you think alias, there are loads of things that can be done and a lot of the time they look worse than they are. good Luck!

Oh well....sun is shining again. :D Man has been....and he has no idea what the cause of the problems are. :rotfl:

He does know that it's nothing serious though, no structural issues, no subsidence, no roof problems.

He thinks it might be to do with the fact our loft is floored and the panels are screwed down which has stopped the natural movement of the house, hence the cracking and gaps appearing as it can't move the way it needs to.

That's his best guess so far. He'll report back to big boss and we'll get a written report soonish.

I don't care what the cause is now that I know it's not a falling down problem.

He reckons we can just fill the gaps in and paint over them. He can't say for sure they wont come back but if they do, they wont be to the same degree he thinks.

Dig them out then fill them, lots of houses get them, and it is mainly to do with movement. You must dig them out a little first otherwise they will reappear immediately.
  • I've just found this thread and think this is a fantastic idea. I'm usually on the DFW boards as I don't have a mortgage yet, but I'm going to get another piggy from Pigsback and use it as my Mortgage Deposit Pig.
My mantra is "Never pay full price!" ;)
  • antlers??? what antlers? I'm intrigued!!!!!!!
