i just counted mine up coz i'm excited about it getting fuller, its got nearly £50 already!!! although i havent got a mortgage Percy is now shouting at us to be fed so we can have a nice weekend away or go to Alton towers or something!
  • Great idea, and as i bought a tortoise money bank at a boot sale i think i'll use that - very appropriate as my mortgage is soooo huge that it'll take a long long time to pay off - but the tortoise always gets there in the end doesn't it! :T

this is my first post but £2 coin club: £6 so far !!
  • Netto were doing the same painty pigs for £1.99 if they have any and if you also have a netto near you!

Aliasojo - Congratulations and Well Done Herman too.....

What fabulous news. My 'pig' should arrive soon - then we are raffling for its name! 20p each - but as many goes as you like.... children can't wait!!! DH thinks I'm mad, but then he has done for the last 7 years!!! Looking forward to being able to make the first overpayment as soon as I can. Many thanks for starting this thread.

  • Great idea.

Also do a mortgage 'calendar'. We have ours on our airing cupboard door which we pass regularly and have to look at.

It works like a calender that you turn over. We put a 3" x3" page for each thousand pounds of the mortgage and just put the numbers e.g. 1,2,3,4 etc on each page. So lots of pages!

At the start of the month we get a statement and then we turn over a page, hopefully, on the mortgage. So you get to see your mortgage going down!

Every 10 pages is a different colour denoting another £10,000 paid off. It's really therapeutic and you feel like your getting somewhere, especially when the colour changes and you get to rip off some sheets.

You also have a constant reminder of how much you have left to pay hanging up and see it regularly every day. It work's for us! We find it encouraging.

Nobody has a clue what it's for as it's just sheets of paper hanging up with small numbers on e.g. 1 - 100.

On reflection I wish I had written treats onto the pages to celebrate when milestones where achieved, but saving that for the big day when we no longer have a mortgage.

Also had a bit of fun designing it and making it personal.

and actually it got a lot more positive response than a lot of my suggestions ( even the good ones !) so thank you Alisojo.
OH is a muslim but was still cool with the idea of a piggy!
So we are on the lookout for a nice chubby Mr Pig & making plans for his future health & welfare. Does anyone know how big these 'apmit your own pigs' are ? I want a real biggy (a :j biggy piggy)so that no-one can pretend they dont notice him.

    Thanks

Oh my. :rotfl: Piggies of the world unite! Pretty soon....every home in the land will have one. (The bigger the better BL!) :D

I wonder if the Mortgage companies will introduce a new condition and make us sign a sworn avidavit (sp?) when we apply for a mortgage to say that we promise not to get a Mortgage Pig and that we will continue to pay our mortgages off in the time allocated thus ensuring optimum interest for them. ;)

Herman is on a sabatical at the moment, until the end of the month. (We're wiped out with paying off the mortgage and have nooooooo spare cash at all.) Then as soon as pay day comes around again, he'll go back to work with a vengeance.

    Happy pigging everyone.

Btw, tortoisesaver....welcome to MSE. I'm glad you made your first post here. I hope you find the site useful generally. Like your user name,,,,slow and steady always gets there in the end. :)
Herman - MP for all! :)
  • Got my pigsback piggy wiggy today - shes pink and see thru and will save the one DD bought me from being broken!
I like the fact its see through, can see all the pennies mounting up!
  • Pigsy is now half full after a tranfusion of funds from breakable pig! In fact its had quite some dinner today as everyone is trying to fill it up!
By the way its a few quid better off as instead of losing to the bookies we put £2 down each and none of us won, so pigsy ate it! But thanks to aliasojo's idea we thought we would save the money instead of going to the bookies as we only bet a small amount and wouldn't win more than a few pounds anyway. If I hadn't of seen my horse before the race i wouldn't have known he was in it! well done to the winner though!
