Herman is on a sabatical at the moment, until the end of the month. (We're wiped out with paying off the mortgage and have nooooooo spare cash at all.) Then as soon as pay day comes around again, he'll go back to work with a vengeance.

Herman definitely deserves a holiday after paying off your mortgage! Perhaps he could get a straw hat and sunglasses, and send postcards from some tropical paradise.

well done on winning Aliasojo - I will join the ranks of those inspired.

I actually started saving three weeks ago when I moved to a new job about 2 miles from my house and discovered I would be charged the full bus fare each way for this mammoth journey. This is £1.60 each way so £16.00 per week (or £832 per year!!!). I was so disgusted I decided to set aside £16 in change each Monday in a separate purse and whatever was left in that wee purse at the end of the week would represent the number of times I had walked rather than bussed. With over 5 stone to lose in weight I am seeking to gains ££s and lose LBs at the same time. So far have saved £11.20 in first week, £12.80 in second week and £14.40 last week! Still have not put in the perfect £16 but will get there yet. Think I have lost about 5lbs too so working on both fronts.
Money currently in old coffee jar but think a piggy or other lovable rogue would be much more appealing. Current aim is not mortgage but xmas - would so love to have xmas without any need for plastic at all! Am saving all piggypoints, ciao points, boots card ponts etc with same aim.

Thanks for inspiration - coffee jars days are numbered!

Wow, I really love the idea of the pig Aliasojo! Well done on thinking of such a fantastic way to spruce up saving money! It reminded me of how one of my coursemates at university saves money... Between him and his housemates, they were always struggling to find spare change to buy milk, or loo roll, so they decided they needed to have a communal pot. At the same time, my coursemate's relatives were getting rid of an old, but working, fruit machine from a pub... So they decided to have this fruit machine in the front room of their uni house, and they put all their spare change in it. If they won, it would usually end up going back into the machine anyway! By the end of this term, they had over £150 in there, which is now going towards an end of university barbeque and party! It's ironic really that a fruit machine has been used to actually save money!!

Anyway, I've been inspired by Aliasojo so much I'm gonna have to get a piggy bank now!!

I brought myself a piggy bank at the weekend! (He is a "paint your own piggy bank - pig") I am going to paint him and give him a name and then fill up his belly!

My OH thinks I have lost the plot - but he already has a few quid in his tummy due to avoiding a takeaway last night! He will be full up before we know it!

thanks OP - it is the small ideas like this that make all the difference and make you realise how much money you can waste. I might even get one for work!
