I agree with Jenner, my OH and I BOTH have pocket money, we even have a separate "Spends" account so we don't spend anytihng we shouldn't , how sad are we :rolleyes:May 2015 £10 a day currently £2080 -
i am into this idea (having read more of the thread) of the money/mortgage pig thing, however, I need some advice about the practicalities of it when, like me, you never or hardly ever use cash
I was thinking for things like take aways, instead of ordering the takeaway, i would get something out of the cupboard and put the money in the pig but i always pay for a takeaway by debit card, same with uneccessary things like more shoes(!), excessive food, lunches at work, etc etc
i use my card for everything
what do other people do with their pig in that circumstance?0 -
I don't have a pig - have one of those tins that have to be opened with a tinopener! I've been saving "free" money I've saved by using money-off coupons on shopping. I've been really rigid about it & refused to let my partner put all his loose change into it (I did take the money tho - and used it in a self-scan till at Tesco!) - only money I genuinely would have spent but saved instead goes into my tin. Looking forward to opening it in July when we go on holiday!0

Withdraw £50 ( for example) on a friday night after work and put it in a glass in the cupboard. When you want to make a takeaway you will have cash in the house to put in the pig..
If at the end of the next week you haven't spent the £50 then put it in the pig anyway...If only it was that simple

Jenner you could have a pig as a focal focus for you put also have a web saver account so you can just transfer the money straight into a mortgage websaver but having a pig on show to remind you of your challenge. Or do the above with withdrawing money, the choice is yours

Wow ive only just found this thread and i think its great!! Ive already got a pig which is hiding some where in my bedroom so im going to get him (or her its pink so i think probably her) out and show it off with pride. Im thinking up ideas to have on the poster as we speak and im going to put all spare money no matter how little in there. As i dont actually have a mortgage the money will go towards paying off debts and then when they are clear (hopefully by the end of the year) i will start a deposit savings pig for a mortgage.Proud to be Dealing with my Debts

finally been able to feed prudence.
due to another lucky winlol
won the bonus ball money, all £47 of it last weekend, and as much as i would lov to feed it all to prudence, it is the end of the month so i am skint, so some has been used on grocery shopping, however, i did put a few quid in, it all helpsThanks to all who post comps :T0 -
Congrats on the win, Kosma!
I emptied 'Will' yesterday and have around £40 to change up and bank! Some will go towards our holiday (caravan for a week in July)
The children are still loving feeding 'Will' and are nobbling everyone they see for odd change!!0 -
well done vihan, it i always useful when the children go getting money for piggies, lol.
prudence is quite a fat pig, and made from paper mache, so think it will be a while before i get round to opening her (but OH is itching to smash her open), i am hoping it will be xmas time, but then if i open her nefore xmas, i shall use it on pressies rather than paying off mortgage which it is meant for, so gonna try and use some of that will power thing i have heard so much about, and keep it going til after xmas, so i can use it to pay off mortgageThanks to all who post comps :T0 -
I'm a late comer to MoneySaving and I'm thoroughly amazed it has taken me so long to see the light. Seeing Herman has struck a chord with me and I now have Albert proudly sitting in my kitchen hungrily waiting to be fed.
I'm about to have a new larger, longer term mortgage but I'm adamant it will be paid off sooner than 2023.
Fingers crossed that Albert gets fed regularly.0
