What exactly are you doing with the change? Are your banks happy to take it off you - I seem to remember the alliance and leicester beign a bit difficult about taking actual 'money'. I've sorted the contents of our holiday pig out and bagged it up, but I really don't think they're going to want to take it off me....

    Do they have to?

i think it all depends wh you bank with, i have an isa with nationwide, and they will only accept 5 bags at a time (and that is being paid into account, shocking isnt it) but i just went to natwest to change all my colins into notes, they did ask if i bank with them, which i do, but they didnt want to see any proof, anyway, they changed all my cash. so maybe it is building society's who are awkward?
Thanks to all who post comps :T

yep the same with halifax they will only take 5 bags at a time, i only save pound coins in my morgage pig but last month i had £200 worth and i ended up changing it in the que with mums wanting school dinner money, it was so funny but the OH was mortified. with regards to your bank excepting it as an overpayment to your morgage, well yes it's fine as they just treat it as one of your accounts with them but be careful cos as with your bank account they will let you take money out of it and then charge you if you go overdrawn: with your morgage they will let you pay in and then charge you if you dont have an overpayments facility on your morgage!!! but most do i think;)

you just ask them over the counter and they will give you a hand full, they have a weighing machine so wou need to bag them up first in appropriate bags not mixed and already counted then they just stick the bag on the little machine.

  • What a great idea! I think I'll be copying Kaminari's 'saving for a deposit' pig- and as it's my birthday soon, I shall be putting the actual pig (or gorilla...) on my birthday list.
