I've just got Felix the Fat Cat - bought for me by my mum, so the first saving to go in him is the cost of a pig, no longer required!! And apparently the name Felix means happy and prosperous, so lets hope he is and my mortgage is paid off quickly.
DFW nerd No 679 - now debt free since June 2011 - woohoo!! - now I'm working on the mortgage!
(anything, something and nothing do not end in "ink" !!!!!!!!)0 -
I have a VW camper and a collection of VW camper ceramic money boxes, I might use one of these as my mortgage pig. I already have a couple of saving jars, one an unopenable money tin (£ coins) to fund my maternity leave and a general saving jar for all loose change. I like the idea of putting money you save by not having takeaways etc into it.0

What a great idea! I'm just about to take out my first mortgage and shall be scanning the ebay pages for a pig. I have named my pig already(Madam Pig- Pog) If anyone has any ideas as to where I may locate Madam Pig-Pog, other than Ebay, I would be most grateful!
Thank You Aliasojo for your encouragement!0 -

I do it when I have about £10 in bagged coins plus notes and/or I know I am able to get to a bank. This is normally about twice a year, but if I have collected a large amount like I did a few weeks ago, I make a point of going, because I knew that if I hung onto it, it would be whittled away.
My wife tends to take any notes/cheques we have fairly reguarly outside of my efforts. I look after the pennies - she looks after the pounds which is why I have to ask for a tenner or two if I want to go to the pub to watch the footie because she has all the money, and I can't pay for a pint with one and two penny pieces.Gordon Brown ate my hamster0 -
Oh, right! LOL! I think we will go two monthly then as we put more by as I often get paid for odd bits in cash, as does my wife, so building up quicker. Frightening thing is before this cash was just lost.
In fact I have just emptied Meredith The Mortgage Cow after just what, four weeks? £130 straight off the mortgage!!:D0 -

Holy Cow!
£130 in 4 weeks! Thats some serious cash. Just think what you could earn if you save that and the money from door to door Carol singing!...
(For me that would be £130 plus 10p).Gordon Brown ate my hamster0 -
Its amazing isn't it? There was a few pounds there 'bonus' from work, so maybe not an every month target, but good start! Shows how much we waste I suppose as that would have just gone on take-aways, magazines, bits like that instead without even realising, so a big THANK YOU to the OP for the idea - its works!0

This is such a fantastic idea. Have been reading the thread from the start so have some great ideas for saving. Got Peefer last weekend and made my first payment (£470) off the mortgage - money we would have wasted I'm sure, if not for this thread. The best thing is that the OH has completely bought into the idea which is great! Looking forward to the next payment after a few eBay sales.Aim - to be Gift money neutral in 2010:rotfl: starting 2010 with:-Test & Vote - 6083 points / Valued Opinions - £8.00 / Home of Research - 890 points / IPSOS - 930 points / You Gov - £3.00 / / One Poll - £18.65 / Ciao - £2.42 / Lightspeed - 490 points / Quidco - £30.81 / Synovate - 280 points0
