Anne_Marie wrote:What a brilliant idea, am totally inspired by this thread, and about to give it a go.
Just realized that I hadn't bought my newspaper all week, because I wasn't at work, so that's £2 already, which I've stuck aside for the moment. Not saying I won't buy a newspaper all next week, but will not buy daily any more, try to wean myself off a bit - it's the puzzles, I'm hooked on them!
Have you thought of buying a puzzle book instead of the paper? It costs a little more up front, but you'll get LOADS more puzzles for the money
I'm looking on ebay now... there's an adorable 'money bunny' on my watchlist, but I haven't decided yet. He or she will be in charge of debts first, and when that is done, the next task will be saving for a down payment on a home of our own! I love it!

OMG! If anyone wants a really creepy piggy bank, check out this guy! I think he'd terrify me into emptying my pockets!

I have just stumbled across this thread, what a great idea! :T
I've got a pigsback pig. I was using him to save for a family National Trust membership for days out over the Easter/Summer holidays. All the coin under 50p have their own jars in the kitchen cupboard, but when I totted it all up we didnt have enough, so I added the pigsback pig initially inspired by the £2.00 coin savers club, EXCEPT I never had any £2 coins so it became £1 amd £2. Have now saved enough for the National Trust.
Now I have a new use for piggy. I will have to re-name him officially and put him in a more prominent place in the kitchen. I'll have to get something for work too - no more toasted teacakes at tea break time, (44p) both me and the mortgage will be getting smaller!
Excellent idea, aliaojo, thanks. :A0 -
I decided against the money bunny, because I found an even better piggy bank for us on ebay... just waiting till the auction ends tomorrow!

Please say it's not 'The Head', Michelle.
That was awful! I would worry that would come alive when I was in bed. (Think Chucky :rotfl: )
I'm really glad you're all joining in. There's safety in numbers which means if anyone does think I'm daft.......they think you lot are daft too.

I've taken to changing Herman's speech bubble from time to time depending on our circumstances. If my OH gets an overtime shift, then Herman will 'shout'....'Oi, Mr aliasojo.....I KNOW what you've just done...chuck us a fiver.' :rotfl:
My family now check Herman on a daily basis, whether they have spare pennies or not.He usually ends up getting something though, even if it's only coppers.

Found this thread yesterday and I am hooked! What a fantastic idea - big thanks to aliasojo, you're a genius :T :T :T
Suddenly I am bored by the old bottle we currently collect coins in and I have just been on ebay and in ds bedroom to find new characters to add to the family. Dh and I aren't ready to start paying off mortgage yet but we are definitely looking to pay off debts and save for next years hols.
So, we have got a Little Green Man (from Toy Story) who will stand in eye line in the kitchen, Gromit who will sit on my desk at work and Shaun the Sheep who will sit on DH's desk. Decided we needed reminding about money saving wherever we are, not just at home!!
Thanks again, will keep checking in on the thread for more inspiration, everybodys own little twists on the idea are great.

When do you all count up howm much is in your banks? I think we should leave ours be for a while but partner thinks we should count it monthly. Changed days from not beoing interested. I'm not complaining though.0

just a quick update, i couldnt wait for my pigsback piggy to arrive so got one for 99p at clinton cards (it was reduced!) and she now sits on top of my fridge with a poster underneath with Miss Piggy shouting to 'feed me!'
My work mates think i'm nuts coz i keep asking BF, have you fed miss piggy tonight? !0 -
After reading this thread yesterday I moved my piggy around in the kitchen and explained to OH and DD's (7 +10) what his new job was. OH reckons he never has any spare cash even coppers, but DD1 foind 20p from under her bed and DD2 had picked up 2p from the floor under the table at lunchtime (they put them in) DD1 has renamed the pig Pinky, and she reckons we need to put at least a pound in a day to feed the pig.
(I think they were both motivated by OH going off into a daydream about how we could save up for a holiday home in France if the mortgage was paid off - inspired by some friends of ours who have recently bought a Spanish holiday home)
OK, it was a daydream but if thats what it takes to inspire them I not going to complain!0 -
I just had a mental image of the plant from "Little Shop of Horrors" singing "Feed me, Seymour... feed me all night long!" :rotfl:
