Sky+ box

Options
Hi

I had SKY TV for nearly 12 months, just wanted how would be the best way how to get this upgraded to SKY+ without having to pay for the installation and box? Thanks in advance.

Just phone up and say you're going to Virgin as it's cheaper and they'll give you a free V+ box if you switch now.

Worked for me. Free installation, free Sky+ box, half price multi-room for 12 months (x2), and 6 months free movie pack.

Dont threaten to leave, just talk to them and say that Virgin are offering a good deal, see what they say then. Haggle, haggle, haggle. Have you taken advantage of the free Broadband and Sky talk (free evening and weekend calls)
also Sky line rental is only £10. Ask about this and they will fall over themselves to accommodate you.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

I have two accounts with Sky, on one my current property and one on my older property (where my mother still lives) so they are getting two direct debits from me each month.

Do Sky offer me any deals when I politely request them ??? Do they heck !

I have just been on the phone to a most disagreeable Sky man in the Cancellations Dept who ended up arguing with me and using phrases such as "I've told you several times...." and "I already told you I am going out of my way to speak to another department....".

They're not willing to give me anything even though I've been with them for over 20 years.

Precisely why I don't advise being pleasant. Just say you're going to Virgin. They won't let you if they can help it.

You will get precisely nowhere being unpleasant.

Some time ago I has a faulty Sky+ box and tried to get Sky to replace it.
    They wouldn't.
I told them I was thinking of going to Virgin.
They said they were happy for me to go.
I said could they do anything for me, and they quoted the standard price for a new box.
I said I wasn't happy and said I wanted to reduce my subscription to take away movies, Disney and Sports, and pointed out that that came to significantly more in lost revenue to them than replacing my faulty box.
    They said they didn't mind.
I reduced the subscription (I don't miss it).
I then picked up a cheap deal on a new installation (£30) instead.
I expect I'll have to go through a similar rigmarole when this box (eventually) fails.

2 months ago after reading the thread about it on here i called the cancellations department and said i would like to cancel as i had been offered a better deal.
I was paying £22pm for sky,£18 for internet and £30 for landline, i said the other provider had offered me all 3 (freeview not sky ,but with a recordable box thingy) for £55 pm and although i'd never had any problems with their service, in the current climate i had to take the best deal. He then asked if i knew that sky offered packages with all 3, i played dumb and said no, he checked what it would come to and said i could get it for £48pm with them (this was including upgrade to sky+ and £17 for internet which would be reduced to £5 within a year). I said it sounded too good to be true and asked what the catch was. Catch was i'd need to pay £50 for the set up (he said this was a reduced rate, cant recall how much he said it should have been). I thanked him for his efforts and said sorry for wasting his time but it just wasn't do-able as unfortunately i just didn't have £50. He asked me to hold on a minute while he spoke to his line manager (or pretended to), came back on the line and said if i signed up there and then he'd be able do it for me without the fee. :j

As far as i can tell you have to threaten to cancel before they can offer you anything. I was polite, friendly and (mostly) honest. From what i understand they get a certain amount of deals per day. I didn't feel bad as i went through the cancellations department and surely its their job to try and get customers to stay.
    ;)
I called recently for my friend (she was scared to try) and got her the same deal. (Not sure if its significant or not but both times i called after 6pm, could be that its the last chance to use up their deals or up their tally for the day.)

I'd say its worth a shot, not a good climate for anyone to be losing business even if its a company as big as sky.

Worst case scenario you have to follow through and cancel, you get 10 days/2 weeks before its actively cancelled so just phone the next day and ask to reinstate it for whatever reason. I was prepared to do that. :D

    Good luck :D
