Egg BT Fee Official Line - 29-03-2006
  • I do not mind what your charges are so long as the web site makes it clear what the charge will be before making the transfer. Other cards do this. Why not Egg?

    Dear Mr xxx
We're making some changes to your Egg Card Conditions.

These changes are to Conditions 4.2, 7.2 and 11.4 of your Egg Card. They come into effect from 1 May 2006 onwards and are as follows:

Changes to Egg Card Conditions: 4.2 – this change is to clarify that if you breach your conditions whilst in your introductory period, you will lose the benefit of the introductory promotional rate.
7.2 – this change confirms we're increasing the handling fee from 2% to 2.5% of the amount of each transferred balance, and that we are also removing the limit for the maximum amount that can be charged.
11.4 – this change is to clarify that if you breach your conditions whilst in a special promotion period, you will lose the benefit of the special promotion offer.

  • My husband and I have used the egg cards anniversary offer the last 3 years to put money straight into our current account and then into a savings account to earn good interest. Making sure we paid it off at the end of the 5 months I had my 3rd year (and final) offer in April this year, and so got it fee free, My husbands anniversary was in May, so got stung for the balance transfer fee. Not only this but you also get charged interest on the balance transfer fee, (shown on statement as if it were a purchase.). Never had this with any other 0% balance transfer we have used. Does anyone else know of a card that does this?

Had a letter from Egg about my July anniversary offer which states the 2.5% BT fee. They also called me yesterday to remind me of the anniversary offer, again mentioning the 2.5% BT fee. Are they getting desperate?

Interesting that some get an anniversary offer without a fee and some with a fee...Is there something fishy going on?

I've only heard of one instance where someone was able to do a BT without a fee, think it was on the Stoozing forums. It is very rare and is probably only given to those who don't pay in full every month, or incur charges on a regular basis.

Yeah, that sounds probable. However, I made that comment because I did not notice the date of some of the posts at the top of the current page (Sept 2005). I removed it soon after realising.

They called me 3 times about the offer, desperate to sell an uncapped BT fee, I said it wasn't a good offer and ended the conversation.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Egg didn't notify me when my 2nd year anniversary offer was due. I missed the deadline by 12 days, now they want to charge me the full balance transfer fee. They said I had requested they don't inform me of offers. But I don't remember ever doing this. I have asked for proof. They are calling me back tomorrow...
