Tesco actually does quite a bit in the name or corporate responsibility, not much is heard about it or promoted simply because its easier to knock a company than praise the good that they do.
Try telling all the local shops that large supermarkets have forced to close........and then that isn't enough so they come back for more with express stores............and tell the farmers that too.

also not wishing to argue...i am a price integrity team leader in one of the larger extra stores and used to be a fresh food stock controller.
You obviously enjoy your job and I do not wish to knock you for that. We all have to make a living. I can only say that Tesco in my area has in my opinion now got a monopoly. The more I can get through r&r, points etc the better.

this isnt really the place for this debate...however who really has forced the local shops to close? Is it the supermarket providing competition or is it the consumer who decides that they want their goods cheaper therefore shop at the supermarket. If people were really that keen on saving the "local" shops then they would simply ignore the supermarket and continue shopping in the local high street. As it is, people have decided that they would prefer to save money and shop in the supermarket, be it Sainsbury, Tesco or Asda. Then the same people complain about the loss of the local shops....hypocritical by all accounts.Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!
I don't exist, it is merely your imagination.

While we're on the subject of morals - what about the consumer?
Consumers are very quick to knock the big supermarkets (especially Tesco, easy target being the biggest), due to their monopolies and forcing other shops out of business...
But its those same consumers that will constantly return to Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morissons over the independent stores. And why is this? PRICE. Simple - they're cheaper.
Everyone is very vocal about the supermarkets and loves having a go, but when it comes to putting your money where your mouth is, it is a very, very different story.
Don't get me wrong, I am by no means Tesco's biggest fan, and do find it concerning that one company has such a large market share, but sometimes it seems the public want to have a go just for the sake of it; and perhaps aren't really so true to their "beliefs".0 -
Well I can only speak from were I live. I am not one of those hypocritics. I signed a petition against tescos opening and another against them expanding. The planning even got knocked back other than intervention from Mr Two Jags. I have no choice now but to use the supermarket.

Read the following book - :"Shopped" - Joanna Blythman - I read this a year ago and it totally changed the way I shop now. It covers the supposed fresh baked bakery items that sell instore, the farmers costs being undercut, who really pays for BOGOFs and tells of initimidation of suppliers by the Big 4. I personally always buy my fruit & veg from our local greengrocer and meat from our local butcher. I bought a bread maker for all my bread and shop at Lidls for my remaining items - not only are they cheaper but the European standards (I hate to say it) are loads better then ours. When there was the food dye cancer scare last year I did not have to check any of the products in my cupboard because such dyes are not allowed in European countries. Also the processed foods that you buy in supermarkets (eg chilled ready meals) that differ in price between the big 4 actually all come from the same factory. You are paying for the name (Ie M&S as opposed to ASDA) the only difference is the front packaging which will say "Packaged for XXX Stores" but the actual producet comes from the same factory irrespective of which store you buy it from.
I used to shop at Tesco and was averaging 100 per week for a fmaily of 4, no luxuries included. I now shop for less than half of that by using the outlets mentioned above. I DO use Tesco for certain items which I cannot but in Lidls eg Daddies brown sauce and their own Yeast Extract, since Lidls yeast extract is too salty for my taste, but that is all.
But I digress ..... we were talking about r&r weren't we? I maintain that those of you who regularly r&r at Tescos but still shop there for your weekly shopping are paying for that by way of inflated prices. I agree that everyone likes a bargain, I bought 10 packets of chilled prawns whan I was last in tesco for my beloved brown Sauce at 10p each - but there is a difference between buying a bargain and actively looking around the shop to find pricing errors - morally in any event - in my humble opinion, solely to gain those items for free.0 -
I will read that book Mrs Optimist - it sounds interesting.
Must go - off to tescos to check out r&r and get rid of some coupons :rotfl:

Very true - as an example, the week before last I went into Sainsbury's and picked up a bag of grapes, only to notice that the plastic bag they were in said Marks and Spencers on it!! How embarrassed were they at Customer Services!!!I :heart2: Boots

The jobs are entirely different and the only thing that links them is that they usually work from the same office. Price integrity have no control over stock whatsoever and stock control have nothing at all to do with prices or pricing.
Would it be reasonable to assume that some are genuine price changes due to markets and supplier changing prices, but a lot are more of a need to be able to say "hundreds of prices cut this week" and therefore more marketing efforts are driving the price changes. Basically I am wondering if Tesco were to say stick with a price for a longer period of time, and have less "special offers" they might get less incorrectly displayed prices, but shoppers will pretty much shop at their closest / favourite store anyway. Less incorrectly displayed prices would then equate to less likelihood of anyone being overcharged and then it truly would be "in the unlikely event ...."
I could pick examples from the top of my head, PSP games seem to be an interesting subject, 19.94, then 19.97, then 19.94 again, then 19.97 .... in the space of about 6 weeks, or if we wanted to pick a meat, the finest lamb racks... 13.44/kg, then 10.44/kg, then 13.44, then 19.99 now back to 13.44 .... can we really know for sure if the supplier has changed their prices that much as well, or was this all about marketing both those "price cuts" whilst not shouting out about the price going back up in between.
If the decision is that marketing drove that price change, then surely they should be considering any downside to their policy of changing the prices so often against the possible upside they might have already sold the idea on.0 -
