Over the last couple of weeks, at various stores , i have spotted quite a few items with higher price on pack against the shelf price but always scans at the lower price . Cant help but think it's deliberate to make us think we have found something and if the store has no scanner to check would you buy it and take a chance ?
I think you're right! It's well known that Tescos also faked the moon landings and were behind the assaination of JFK.
    Can I help?

I would try it at the checkout with the rest of my shopping and watch what it scans at if it scans at the lower price, just say - changed mind/I thought it was cheaper than that/whoops I picked up the wrong one - and they can void it off the till.

I'm sure they could afford it

They can at the moment...the void item facility is likely to be removed soon, which will result in a wait for a supervisor. (its an anti fraud thing rather than an anti r & r thing). The manual reduction facility was removed around 9 months ago for the same reason.

A question for Constantine, or one of the other Tesco bods :) I seem to recall reading in an old thread that the prices are applied by computer nationally from Head Office. Is there any option for a store to say, not apply those price changes at the same time as another store, and perhaps be using an older price for an item for up to 3 or 4 days after other stores changed, or can they manually overide the computer to "fix" a misprice by charging the lower price. The reason i ask is a number of times I have know the price of something from scanning it at 2 or 3 other stores, then i get to another and its still at a different price, take King Kong for PSP for example, the prices changed from 19.94 to 19.97 in several stores I visited and scan checked, but then I came across a store with the 19.94 SEL still in place and thought I was on a winner, but it scanned at that price too. I also see Dysons at different prices in different stores, one store does the allergy at 179.99, another does it at 249.99 and the original is 179.99, then yet another has it at 177?.97. It seems there isnt a national price set for some things and its rather a local option to set a price.

Doesn't matter whether the cashier can void it herself or needs a supervisor to void it, if you change your mind when you see the price go through the till you can ask to leave it.

I have worked in retail for over 20 years, including cash office supervisor, customer services, range auditing and POS supervisor (similar to Tescos pricing integrity), I don't need to be told how a till operates.

Um...chill a bit? I was not trying to tell you how a till operates...was just trying to share some information with you...it is, after all, a bit of a change to how things currently operate.

It's OK. I've worked in IT for 25 years and am also really clever. ;) However, I don't know how a till operates and was grateful for the insight.

I wondered what those four horesemen were doing on my drive. One of them kept going on about Refund and Revelation whilst another, holding a pair of scales just kept chanting a mantra that sounded like "roundingerror roundingerror".
The other two were attempting to pull a chariot but were struggling to find a coin to release it from the rack (that one works better in French).
Anyway, I'll head off to Atlantis now (apparently it's not just HO there, it's H2O) to take whatever punishment is in-store (only) for me.
