I feel quite confident that when the CCTV is viewed (which I have requested) it will result in a written warning or dismissal.

Ho hum - I'll keep you posted.

Although I've been R&R'd on smaller items when the yellow SEL ticket is out of date I didnt have any luck with a higher priced mobile phone. CS offered me the difference and to be honest didnt have the heart to argue as there was a long queue at the desk.
I phoned Head Office Customer Services to clarify and they said technically, as the SEL was out of date than CS were quite right to offer the mobile phone at the lower price. They did, however, give me 500 points on my clubcard and werent interested in the store involved.
In the end I took the phone back and kept the 500 points.
Is it really worth getting into a huge row about R&Rs? I'm already starting to feel uncomfortable at my local Tescos with taking back so many overcharged items that I shop at other Tesco branches further afield.
However my local Tesco is the only one that have enough young Saturday boys who happily take my Sainsbury vouchers. But also the most misprices!!

Technika DVD player model 105 is down to £20.xx from £29.xx and marked 'reduce to clear' at my local Tesco.

The yellow SEL is very interesting. It shows two old prices of £27.xx and £29.xx and the current price of £20.xx. The small print below reads something like "Higher of the prices displayed chargred between xx/11/05 and xx/02/06".

That's very quick from Mr T :rotfl:.So many people have already got it for free under R&R (unfortunately excluding me) :o .

Me and OH both need in car chargers, can you give anymore info on these?
These mobile phone add ons are normally kept near the mobile phones. They are in yellow and blow packaging. The 1 pence ones have new barcode stock over the old ones. But you should scan them or even ask a member of staff to check the price for you to ensure it's only 1P. I expect that you'll find some as I have seen them at this price at more than 1 store.

A quick question: I bought one of Tesco'd cheapo mobile phones £29.97 couple of nights back and now spotted the same phone on Tesco.com about £5 less. I have already opened the box but not yet made any calls from the phone. Could I return it back to Tesco even though I opened its box (Do I have 28 days, I remember reading something on this forum that it isn't easy to return mobiles back to Tesco,,,, I could be mistaken though so pls. confirm )?

You will not be able to return the phone as you have broken the seal on its packaging. 28 policy is for returned items that Tesco can sell on....with all the problems with mobile phones you will be lucky if it is accepted back...but there is no harm in trying.

In Ayr Extra, all mobile phones sold are opened to ensure the contents are complete.Other stores maybe different.Could you say that happened to you?
  • In view of all the recent debates instore regarding refunds etc , the obvious answer would be for tesco to have signs at customer service explaining the simple procedure should you be overcharged on your purchase. It could be along the lines of -

1 : Upon bringing the price query to the attention of the customer service department the customer service staff shall check shelf label and product label.
2 : A full refund in accordance with tesco policy shall be given for an overcharge.
3 : Smiley faces, good manners and a pleasant attitude shall be maintained at all times by both parties.
4 : All the above to be completed in under 10 minutes or the customer is entitled to double the refund.

We all know the 3rd point is very difficult for some members of staff to achieve but we can live in hope. Forget the 4th. :rotfl:

Of course tesco would never put up such a sign as it would draw even more people to their policy but it would certainly makes things a little bit easier all round.

Forgive my naiveté or ignorance…. But what do you mean by all the problems with mobile phones.

After checking for an answer to my question on the forum a number of times… I gave up waiting and checked the Tesco 28days return policy online and could no't see anything that indicated that I could not return the phone back provided I had all its bit and bobs in their original packaging etc. So off I went to Tesco to do my evening shopping and took the phone with me to give back. As I expected they were polite and took it back with no quibble, the CS lady just needed to ring the manager to get it okayed which didn’t take long. Oh, the CS lady also wanted to check that the SIM was inside.

So I don't understand why returning a mobile phone back within the 28days is somehow troublesome if the seal is broken?
What has been the trouble with mobiles in the past?

PS. They are doing music CD selection (3 cd) for 3.97..... it is a good deal me thinks:-)

On Saturday evening I was overcharged at Tesco Irlam store.
I bought 3 Sony MP3 players that had the yellow price tag of £149.97 per unit.
On leaving the store I noticed that I had in-fact been charged £159.97 per unit.

Before going to C.S. I went to double check that the advertised price was £149.97 per unit, which it was.
So before going to C.S. I took a photo of the POS.

Spoke to C.S. who informed me that they would have to get the electronics manager to deal with the query.
So I waited at C.S. for the manager to arrive, which he did around 5 minutes later.
After explaining that I had been overcharged we went off to check the POS.
That is where I had my 1st shock, the yellow price tag had been removed, obviously the manage said that I had been charged the correct amount. I tried to explain to him that when I made the purchase and also when I came back into the store to check the POS, the yellow tag was indeed their. He said that there was nothing he could do.

So I asked to see the store manager, only the deputy store manager was available.
It took him around 15 minutes to arrive at C.S.
I then proceeded to inform him of my dilemma to which he was adamant that I was wrong.
After showing him the receipt which had the purchase time of 18:37, then show him the picture I had taken at 18:43 of the POS, he's response was "That is not our POS".
He then went on to insinuate that either I tampered with the POS or downloaded the picture "There are websites that you can do that from" ( I have done a quick Google search and can not find a single POS picture!).

I asked them to check the CCTV footage of me at the POS and of the POS to try and find out what had happened which the response was "Not all of the cameras work and record what is going on". They didn't even entertain the request.

Also the deputy manager stated that the yellow price tag had been removed over 1 week ago and all of the price tags have to be signed out. I know after witnessing a member of staff removing a yellow price tag, that the yellow price tags are placed over the original price tags, so this comment made no sense.

After approx. 10 minutes of going back and forth I left the store, MP3 players in hand, no refund.

Today I called H.O. who contacted the store and called me back to state "The deputy store manager will not give the refund because it is not a genuine overcharge"

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

I can not believe that Tesco are acting like this.

I will be writing to HO, Trading Standards, The Manchester Evening News, Watchdog and any other organisation I can find, who might be interested with the way Tesco are treating it's customers.

Please let me suggest that in future anyone who find's that they have been overcharged to contact a member of staff at the POS and ask for the relevant manager to come to the POS before heading to CS. That way nothing can go missing!

Sorry about the length of my post. :o

Regarding the comment above about not a genuine overcharge, can Tesco explain what a genuine overcharge is?????
    Just about to give up!
