I was at Tesco, quite legitimately doing an R&R and eventually got to speak to a junior duty manager who was extremely rude and aggressive towards me (I had to tell her to stop shouting at me several times). Ultimately after 20 minutes arguing, I didn't get the R&R so I've just finished writing a 12 page letter of complaint to HO, detailing what happened. Excerpt:Unfortunately, I received nothing but rudeness, hostility, insults, accusations and shouting from her directed towards me in an extremely unpleasant manner. Several times I had to ask her to stop shouting at me.
I was talked over, interrupted, not given the chance to explain things properly, ask questions (and receive sensible answers), or even continue a constant conversation with her. She kept walking off from me without explanation and leaving me standing at the Customer Services desk mid-sentence. Also several times other members of staff who I had previously spoken to repeatedly kept butting in to the conversations and shouting at me again. When I tried to explain that I was in the middle of a sentence and talking to Claire, they completely disregarded me and kept talking over me louder and louder until I had no choice to remain silent so we didn't end up shouting at each other.
During the conversation, I was accused of being a liar and of being a thief. Now you may understand why it is with absolute disgust that I feel the need to write this letter to you today. I hope you can realise how shocked, appalled and offended I am at the behavior, manner and actions of several members of your staff during this incident.
At the end of the 12 page letter I detail that I am also forwarding a copy to my solicitor (which I am), as I feel that the accusations of being a liar and a thief warrant further action. You may be in as much disbelief at this as I am, but I feel quite confident that when the CCTV is viewed (which I have requested) it will result in a written warning or dismissal.
Ho hum - I'll keep you posted.0 -

!!! Can't believe you're not shopping near me! Had exact same experience recently, and it was genuine R & R , 2 whole chickens - different weights & prices, both scanned at higher price at till, (as well as SEL and PACK price being different). so complete overcharge. 30 minutes later and about as much abuse as you got by the sound of it i left with my R & R but was not a happy customer at all. will be interested to see how you get on. I thought about taking it further but would prefer more R & R to a ban. Have been back to store but no R & R since. (they are being mega vigilant!)
credit card debt at LBM Nov 2006 £11,300:eek:

Wel i haven't bothered to read this thread for a while now as i rarely shop at Tesco.
I have a story very similar to yours, although clearly my case is even worse.
I was overcharged on an item at Tesco. The product in question had 2 different SELs (it wasn't meat). I was charged the higher price. In the past I have accompanied the staff to the misprice in order to help them. This time when I reported the misprice I noticed some strange head gestures between security and the member of staff going to fetch the labels - security then proceeded to stop me from accompanying the staff member to the misprice and of course this meant the staff member only came back withg the corect label. I was then allowed to check for myself but obviously it was too late by then.
The item I purchased was 1% of the value of one of your mp3 players so it isn't really suprisign they will go to similar lengths for higher value items.
You should probably count yourslef lucky TBH as I was also banned from the store during the incident. Also, on a previous occasion when I offered to take a photo of the sign for them to save them time, they told me that this was not allowed so they can possibly ban you for that if they want to I suppose.
Congratulations on gathering the evidence anyway and good luck in getting the money you are owed.0 -
Mr X: I read your post about not getting R & R on 3 Mp3 players, surely you must see why they would try not to allow such a lose of money, why the need to purchase three of them? I believe the outcome would have been different if you had went to get one item on R & R.
I must say; thanks however for posting this mis-price of the Sony Mp3 Player in the Mis-Price Post - very good of you to contribute to the community..... Glad we are useful to you, now that you need help
And no, I dont work for Tesco0 -
I have heard that the Copdock Tesco Extra, in Ipswich, have a bulk purchase policy of only 1 item. Apparantly it is displayed on a sign at the CS desk as you enter the store.
Seems ridiculous, but there you have it.0 -
If they were prepared to sell him 3 mp3 players, they should stick to their advertised price promise policy and give R+R, as well they know, which is why YET AGAIN, we see Tesco staff defrauding customers by deliberately changing shelf prices after purchase.
I can well understand CS being annoyed when the R+R behaviour looks like it's deliberate, and that this has an effect on their R+R quota, but this is well out of order, and not the first time this has happened.
If this thread has proved anything, it is that there are some very bad CS staff working for Tesco (though I should say I've never had a problem myself, and had mostly pleasant CS staff on R+Rs). For the record I wouldn't buy 3*£140 items for R+R either, as it just looks dodgy.0 -
dammit, they wouldnt let me have 27 LCD tellies the other night
the B@stards, really, it should be illegal to not walk out of a shop with free stuff
EDIT......REWORDED...............
right, you 'didnt realise' you'd be overcharged on THREE mp3 players??????
of-bloody course tesco would view this as abuse, can you tell me how many people buy TWO of the same, let alone 3????
really, YES, it is a tesco policy, and if you'd had one player, we'd all rally and say tesco is not right if they refused you
THREE, really is taking the proverbial, and i'll re-iterate, to do three, you need to be intelligent and take three people, you need to accompany the staff member that checks the SEL
i've gotten many dupe R+R this way, expensive ones two, simply have two family members with you!
so, stupidity is the thing here, you got caught out, simple
FINALLY, yes, this is harsh, but it's idiots like yourself that grab everything, contribute nothing back to the forums, yet still moan and expect support from the community
another one for my ignore list :-)money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

I have posted my experience for all to read and learn the game plan Tesco are employing. Maybe someone can gain knowledge from my bad experience.
As to your comment about "outcome being different if you had went to get one item on R & R". I believe that it would not have matted what quantity was bought. I needed three MP3 players, so I bought three. Should I only ever buy singular items in the future, in the fear that I may be overcharged?
Tesco will do anything, as it seems from the posts on this board, to get out of one of it's advertised policy. Tesco are not forced to have this policy by law, but they are required to carry out any advertised policy. Otherwise they are breaking advertising laws.... and this is the world that we are leaving for all our children.:eek:0 -

being frank though, if you're too bloody stupid to NOT take three members of your family (or friends) with you and do THREE seperate R+Rs then you deserve everything you get (or don't)
may I add, if you're still too stupid to accompany the staff member to the innacurate SEL, then you're extra STOOOOPID
FINALLY, yes, this is harsh, but it's idiots like yourself that grab everything, contribute nothing, yet still !!!!! and expect support from the community

Thank you for your mature and valued response. :T
Have you ever considered a career within Tesco Customer Service?... and this is the world that we are leaving for all our children.:eek:0 -

Whoooahhhh, bang out of order with the personal insults. 3 items is not OTT, regardless of the price, and no justification is required as to why they purchased the volume that they have done.
The majority on here are looking to take advantage of mispricing regardless of whether it's a packet of bacon or a pc. Good luck to all. The main thrust of the point was that Tesco were not honoring their R&R policy and indeed were attempting to cover up their mistakes and trasferring blame to the customer. Shoddy practice indeed.0
