I agree.
But each to their own.
Top tip:
My partner used to work at Tesco - new checkout staff at her store were often placed at the far end of the store - i.e. as far away from the '10 items or less' checkouts - less stress whilst they were learning - I'm not sure if all stores do this.
Also - handy at weekends - new staff had to wait a couple of weeks for uniforms - so they sit on their checkouts dressed smartly - easy to spot.
I for one don't look for "dim" staff - ultimately looks can be deceiving - but it's a fact that new staff sometimes lack the confidence to make waves if they scan an item and notice that the stickered price is wrong.
In my experience it is you, as a customer, that needs to try and look "dim" and use a new member of staff for your purchase - 9 times out of 10 you'll get what you want.

I'm all for RR when Tesco have mispriced an item but targeting new or "dim" staff is, in my opinion very wrong. All mistakes made by cashiers are noted and they get disciplined for it.
If a cashier makes a mistake then get a RR - great! But to try and find someone who is likely to make a mistake... is that really fair?Auntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0 -

My partner used to regularly make mistakes when working on the checkout - she used to come home with some amusing stories - but she was never "disciplined" - The Dude does this...........
In fact she told me that her management were very friendly and understanding with newbie staff.
Perhaps one of our Tesco Dudes can comment?
I would imagine that most Supermarkets experience high levels of staff churn and want to retain their workers - find it difficult to imagine checkout staff getting "disciplined" for every R&R mistake....
If your statement is correct, Savingsgirl, then I would happily retract my advice and post - can someone comment?

I can comment. My sister got a RR on a book that was wrongly stickered and the cashier would have been prompted by the till to check the price - which she didnt. CS told my sister that they would have to have a serious word with her and that this was what happened in those cases.
Anyway, even if I couldnt have given an example I think targeting cashiers is wrong, plain and simple.Auntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0 -
WOW Tesco are bunch of liars!!!!
This morning I went to Tesco in Bursledon and for the first time I almost got a mis-price. It was the Duran Duran CD & DVD set, shelf price and sticker of £8.97 but scanned at £15.97. On the shelf were about 8 or so and some of them even had a big red sticker showing the shelf price (a couple did not). I took both a stickered and non-stickered item to the scanner (downstairs as the Electrical one never works, hmm......) and sure enough everything ws scanning at £15.97. Deciding not to alert the checkout operator to the mis-price I took 2 non-stickered ones to the till, remebering to photograph the shelf sticker. Sure enough the higher price was charged.
I then went to customer services desk and explained the mis-price. Someone was sent to check the price, 10 minutes later he returned saying the shelf price was for the CD only version and managed to produce CD only version. At this point I said that this was rubbish and that I heard about them being tricky and I had a photo to prove otherwise, the woman at the customer services got very stroppy and said she'd heard about people like me and summoned the manager.
The manager arrived and the situation was explained, he went away for another 10 minutes returned and re-iterated the same story, I explained to him that there were DVD versions on the shelf with the £8.97 sticker. A refund was issued but I was not allowed to keep the product.
I then said to the manager let's go back and have a look at the shelf, he assured no there was no foul play but kept asking me when I took the photo. We walked back to the shelf and strangely enough there was now only one CD where there were several stickered DVD's. I told him that there were a lot more than that half an hour ago and jested that they must have had a rush on them. I then walked away as I said to him 'Well done'.
The fact is that there were CD & DVD sets on the shelf with a £8.97 sticker and shelf sticker of £8.97 and they were scanning at £15.97 and then they strangely all disappeared.
Is it worth contacting head office:rotfl:0 -
I'd leave it. You were treating this as a bit of a game ("Deciding not to alert the checkout operator..." etc.) and just lost out on this round. Better luck next time though! Can I help?0

That's where you made your mistake Dude.
By showing the CS staff and manager your photo you are more or less admiting to spotting a mis-price and purchasing it knowingly at the higher price with the intention of getting R&R.
Now I know what you did is what we all do - but Tesco will argue that you did not shop within "the spirit" of the R&R policy.
Unfortunately all you have done is raised your profile at the store - you may find future R&Rs difficult if you are recognised.
In your original circumstances my advice would be to buy the product with the sticker on - mix it up with some other essential or cheap purchases - less chance of it being spotting by the checkout staff.
If the item is spotted then simply plead poverty - or look in your wallet/purse and claim to have forgotten your credit card - anything to get the item taken off your bill.

You're right, it was a game but I played by the rules unlike Tesco who blatantly lied.0

:
Why didn't you take one the ones with incorrect stickers on them rather than non-stickered?
I think then you would have had a clearer case for R&R.
Edit: Sorry, have just realised I've repeated Hey Dudes advice!some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0
