Every time someone gets an r and r you can guaratee that hundreds of innocent people over the county have paid over the odds, I agree that it shouldnt be exploited, but as I have said before, if I am overcharged I will make my way to c/s and get my money back (if I can)

Thanks Floflo, I agree with you.

I have only had r&r a few times (only recently, thanks to info on MSE threads). My total refunds add up to less than £15, but I dread to think how many times in the past I have been overcharged and not noticed it! I have thought about what would have happened if I had not picked up the items I claimed the refunds on....

For instance, if I had not bought one of many wrongly-stickered packs of Gammon (stickered at £5.xx but scanning at £6.xx) then lets say another 10 customers would have bought them later (there were loads on the shelf). Most customers are like I used to be and would not have checked their receipts, so Tesco would have made £10 (or whatever) by enticing people to buy at a misrepresented price.

However, in this instance I gave them the opportunity to update their till/shelf prices for future customers. The CS lady was fine, I was friendly and grateful for the freebie, and I look upon it that I did a job for Tesco's Price Integrity Dept in that branch for the princely sum of £6.xx. When I looked on that shelf out of interest a couple of days later, the price had been put right (was not looking to buy more, don't need that much gammon!).

Mrs Optimist, please come down off your high horse! If you read these threads you will see that many, like me, leave items on the shelf but alert other MSE members to misprices we have noticed. And I for one would not buy more than one expensive mispriced electrical item, nor dare to go to CS about a 3p overprice...(yes I know that even 1p should result in r&r) but of course that would be likely to result in an argument I'd rather avoid.

Like most posters here, I am not a greedy person, just someone who has to watch the pennies every time I shop, and the info on these threads is very helpful, thanks to everyone who posts misprices!!

Also Tesco R&R Raider: I love your footnotes about flashing your boobs at CS, lol lol lol!!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

My problem is with individuals who exploit the system which will result in Tescos cracking down (and reading through the thread it appears that this is already happening) which makes life harder for everyone with extended arguments at the CS desk and bans etc etc.

Nah - it comes and goes.

In the past there have been waves of CDs, followed by DVDs, followed by quality meat  and more recently hordes of PSP games....

....who knows what next months flavour will be!

P.S. Life was hard before Tesco R&R

this isnt really the place for this debate...however who really has forced the local shops to close? Is it the supermarket providing competition or is it the consumer who decides that they want their goods cheaper therefore shop at the supermarket. If people were really that keen on saving the "local" shops then they would simply ignore the supermarket and continue shopping in the local high street. As it is, people have decided that they would prefer to save money and shop in the supermarket, be it Sainsbury, Tesco or Asda. Then the same people complain about the loss of the local shops....hypocritical by all accounts.

The reason why Tesco has grown so big is that they have financial power. Power to offer back handers to planners that the small grocery shop and the farmer do not. So the result is more of these horrible stores sprouting up and more of the old England with small businesses disappearing. Power to tempt the innocent shopper because T knows money talks. We all know what goes on in planning departments with T. Tesco's money does talk and we are all swept along with his cheap offers and keep him in business. It's up to us.

motorolla Slvr phones RED version, no 10% coming off the SEL

Should the 10% already be off the price if you scan it at a wall scanner? Or does the 10% come off at the checkout?

So tell me which phone to look out for. What does the sel say? and what colour is the packaging?
Should the 10% come off the sel. Is the 10% offer on a leaflet I have to pick up or is the 10% discount advertised near the phone?

You have the true reason in your post, its not because of 'backhanders' as you put it. Its because people shop there for the cheap prices. And unfortunately thats the way society is now, people want things for less and they want them now.

So people will see, carton of milk £1 at tesco, or £1.50 at corner shop and will go for the cheaper one

I think that these phones could well be excluded as they are for charity

it's the red motorolla SLVR, 116.97 or something like that

the leaflet says ALL tesco mobiles are 10% off

so, it should scan at 105 something

it doesn't, it scans at the price on the SEL

    - if the SEL stated 'price' said 'includes discount already' then we couldn't do this, it doens't tho

it IS for charity, BUT they get 10 from every sale, regardless if it's an R+R or not

my suggestion, put a tenner in the charity box if you get one
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)
