One of them so badly that the vet told the OH that if he hadn't taken him to the vet when he did, the cat was within hours of having his bladder explode.
Now they get 200g of wet food each per day and OH has learned his lesson
Royal Canin is a complete dry food, so its designed to be fed without wet food.
Mine do dink lots of water, I make sure is the chilled & filtered water I like to drink (as cats are so fussy) I don't know if this is why they drink so much.0 -
My two only drink water from the bathroom (where I keep 3 bowls for them). Originally I thought it was because the water was from the cold water tank in the attic and that, as it had been standing for a while, all the chlorine smell had come out of it. However, recent experiments with said water tank overflowing led me to realise that my cold taps in the bathroom are supplied straight from the mains and that the water is therefore identical to the stuff in the kitchen which they won't touch!0

Sometimes they've gone without food on days when she claims to have no money to buy it with, which I find hard to bear. I'd go without myself to ensure my cat had food to eat everyday. I know if she comes to stop with me for a weekend, her cats will go unfed until her return home as she doesn't arrange for anybody to go in & feed them.
Actually, I forgot to mention in my original, completely outraged rant that leaving a cat without food can cause Hepatic Lipidosis. I'm not absolutely certain that a couple of days could cause this but if the friend is regularly doing this, I'd be very concerned for the pusscats' health, long-term. Not to mention the short-term distress. And she's completely under-feeding them when she even deigns to give them anything. One tin of food a day between the two of them is an absolute scandal0 -

I know its complete, the problem is ours are like pigs and one of them won't actually pull his head out of the bowl unless it's empty so they were constantly overeating.
Ours have a cat fountain with nice chilled water, but they are so contrary sometimes they would still rather go outside and drink out of muddy puddles :rotfl:It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
I have 3 puddycats. they are 14yrs, 12 yrs and 5 yrs old. They are all fed at the same time every morning and every evening (without fail cos they all wait together !). They have wet cat food in the morning and evening, with dry cat food left out throughout the day for when they come in from their socializing ! They have fresh water down at all times, but tend to prefer to drink from the water feature (Yuk !). They have around a tin of food each a day, with a box of dry food lasting for ages.
They also have tuna for a treat when I am flushed !
They also like to finish the dog's food if he is daft enought to leave some for later !
All three of them are healthy and have lovely coats.
Can't bear to hear of anyone not feeding their animals. Like you have mentioned, you can get really inexpensive food from various supermarkets.
Shame on such people.0 -
i have 2 cats and they have a pouch of tesco food in morning and i constantly top up the 2 bowls of biscuit mind you they would at more .its got me thinking its maybe not enough0

If you're constantly topping up their biscuit bowls then you are feeding them enough. Stop worrying.0

It says here that the liver starts turning body fat into energy and this causes a fatty liver. The treatment is to give them LOTS of food. I wouldn't be surprised if these poor cats have very unhealthy livers and a very shortened lifespan0 -
my wee puss puss has his two pouches of Felix in jelly (has to be jelly) -he's a fusspot. He always has access to water and his crunchies plus he gets his cat treats once a day.
Am shocked by cattie's friend's attitude seems to me she thinks more of herself than anyone or thing else.
They cats should be re-homedIf the world didn't suck we would all fall off0 -
I've just taken my cat to the vet for her booster jab and asked about how much to feed her whilst I had the chance.
She's a large cat (Turkish Van mix we think) so I worried we aren't feeding her enough but the vet was happy with her weight.
She doesn't like the pouch food so she gets the Felix fish selection in the trays.
She has one in the morning. And another at about 6pm. On top of that I treat her to the Science Plan kibbles which is kept next to her water bowl so she can munch on those whenever she wants (usually in the middle of the night!).
From time to time I'll replace her evening meal with a full tin of tuna in spring water, or one of those tuna or chicken Sheba Dome meals.
She still supplements all of the above with a fresh mouse during the night though. :rolleyes:0
