Lily is happy with one pouch of Felix with a small amount of dry food, and a small bowl of dry food in the evening.
Every cat is different but certainly think your neighbour isn't feeding them enough!

I have 3 large cats, they basically always have good quality complete dry food down. I probably put down food 4 times a day (first thing, before I leave, once I'm home and last thing). Mine can't have wet food as 1 is allergic to it. That probably costs me around £1 per day for all 3.

Of course it depends on the size and the amount of activity but no way should a cat be not fed for an entire day. I think money is no excuse - cat food can be bought very cheaply from supermarkets. I'd imagine she could feed her 2 cats for less than 50p a day. If she can't afford that she shouldn't have them.

Alcmene - as I can't give mine wet food my cats like cat nip flavour biscuits as a treat (from wilkos)

My cats don't like wet food, I've tried them with various types and both just leave it sat there. So I put out two bowls full of complete dry food every morning and they eat whenever they're hungry. I worried for a while that they weren't getting everything they needed from their food but had a chat with the vet, he said they're both a good weight and very healthy so I'm happy with that.

Your friend does seem shocking, if need be, I'd go without food to make sure my cats didn't, might seem extreme to some, but I'm of the believe that if you can't afford to look after an animal as it needs to be looked after, you shouldn't have it. I'd have to do something if my friends were treating their animals like that.

One day without food is what many Dog Owners do every so often so I doubt it'd be an issue, but it seems cruel to me, I wouldn't want to go a day without food! Mine gets 1 pouch in the morning, which is 100g, then 25g of Hill's Prescription Diet in the evening but i'm considering dropping it to 20g as she's gained weight I think!

I've got a cat with a pinned leg at the moment on lots of medication. The only way I can take him to swallow 2 pills a day is to wrap them in ham ha ha ha and his liquid medication either goes in a little bit of milk (vet has recommended a tablespoon of cow milk a day to aid in relieving his constipation as normally I would only feed cat milk of course) or in a tablespoon of tuna which he loves. Any trick that will get him to take it is a godsend really.

1 pouch each in the morning, one at night. In between they get biscuits if they need bribing.

That said, big cat tried to nab my pizza last night..looked down and saw an exploring paw with claws out feeling the worktop..:rotfl: Little sod.

My boys have biccles and water available at all times and a pouch each at night before we go to bed. On that they are happy, shiny, fit and a good weight without being portly, as they are somewhat advanced in years.

I think we've got it about right, but a friend who feeds on demand thinks I don't feed them enough. I'd feed them more if they showed signs of wanting it, but they honestly seem fine.

Ah yes, the things we have to do to get our furry friends to take their meds. The problem is when the little blighters eat all around the whole or grounded pill, eating everything except the medication.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

My 3 cats get half a tin of food each, twice a day, and a handful of dried food as well each. They also have these vitamin things which are also food if they count?

am horrified actually - I consider this abuse. Maybe you can teach your friend to budget & bulk buy in advance so she doesn't `run out' of money as frequently (I found that supermarket wet food is more expensive than food like say Burns but there is a bit of initial outlay. I buy 99% of my pet needs online & find I am able to afford much more than I could shopping weekly in local supermarket or petstore) - however skint I get I would never deprive my moglets of food. tbh - the two things I never allow to completely finish indoors is litter & food.

I can't comment on the amount as mine eat dried food most days. However I think what the others have quoted sounds about right. I have two & one is quite greedy so she's a bit of a porker & the other is `just right'.
