My cat gets fed twice a day - once in the morning and once about tea time. He gets one pouch and a handful of biscuits each time.

He normally leaves some and munches the leftovers when he gets a bit hungry. As a treat, he also gets bits of raw chicken or beef, which makes him my little friend for life!

Leaving a cat days without feed is just pure cruelty. Even a cat with access to the outdoors should be fed regularly, let alone one which is stuck inside all day.

No free access to outside I'm afraid. The older of the cats likes to go out, but has to be let out & in as there is no cat flap. They live in a 3rd floor flat. Also, my friend makes him stay out all night sometimes which really angers me. He recently had a very bad accident & is lucky to be alive, so I'm hoping she has now learnt her lesson & keeps him home at night. They live close to an extremely busy road close to the centre of London & the Blue Cross animal hospital thought his injuries were caused by being hit by a car at high speed. His injuries were quite bad, poor mite. The younger cat, a female is a house cat, too nervous to go out.

I know the male cat does go rooting around rubbish bins etc to see what food he can find. I feel so sorry for him having to do this.

This friend is very confrontational & insists her cats get fed enough. Sometimes I wish somebody would lock her up for 2 or 3 days without enough food.

I hate people allowing their cats out at night, its the time they are most likely to come to harm.

Your friend is cleary cruel & shouldn't have animals, you MUST report her, or take them off her yourself.

To your question, I free feed mind Royal Canin, as much as they want, bowl never allowed to run empty. DH says I feed to much, they are not fat they are big boned;)

I found this post upsetting so havent been able to read it all - sorry cattie. If i knew of someone who wasnt feeding an animal or taking proper care of it i would call the RSPCA immediatley. To think they are going hungry - its horrible - are they given access to fresh water.

Many charities and people all over the uk are struggling to care for unwanted pets or pets that have not been cared for properly at the mo- i have got 5 cats and a tort - all rescues - can i home these last few in my local area - no. I am on my 12th rescue cat and the things i have seen and i am sure that others have seen are horrendous. we are only on a single small wage and eligible for working tax credit and i still manage to look after 6 pets.

I hope it gets sorted as i know how upsetting it is cattie <<hugs>>

Edit: Mine have royal canine dry male or female s/o and 2 kitekat pouches each a day or 2 tins between 5, some have tuna for their meds and one who is underweight has chicken and rice homemade cooked too.

If she had her way = 5 wet pouches a day
When I have my way considering cats can't yet work supermarket or online shopping = dry cat food and water available all the time, a pouch on a morning (to shut her up miaowling the house down when I'm trying to get ready for work) plus whatever she manages to flutter her whiskers and wheedle outta oh.

I've noticed most of the pouches of cat food are down to 85g instead of the 100g, maybe it's just the different varietys like OH SO FISHY when there is real chunks of fish that's lower.

My Bengals are on raw food. I get it from food-4-cats because the food has bone grinded in so that they get everything they need in the meal. I feed them twice a day. A little in the morning and then a good meal at 6pm. I guess they have half of a 400g sausage each per day (all the raw meat and bone is grinded into a sausage)

am horrified actually - I consider this abuse. Maybe you can teach your friend to budget & bulk buy in advance so she doesn't `run out' of money as frequently

Unfortunately it's not as simple as this with this particular friend. She is just somebody who is a terrible wastrel with money, God knows what she does with it,as I've always managed very well on less income than her, but her priorities are very different from most 'normal' folk sadly.

I've tried to give her help & advice over the years to manage finances, but it's a waste of breath & effort. When I've loaned, or should I say given her money to get food & stuff, it's straight round to the expensive corner shop instead of a visit to her local supermarket. It really does infuriate me.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Just checked some of the pouches & tin foil packets I have in stock & they are all still 100g. None of them are Whiska's at the mo, so will keep my eye out for content next time I'm supermarket shopping for his lordship.

Maybe the kindest thing she can do is rehome this cat. I imagine she is fed well?
