Sounds absolutely gorgeous Kissjen, and if we could afford to move (hence us being on here ) I would rip your arm off for it.
Almost makes me want to cry, but then I'd end up hysterical
Glad you got a payment today, shame the tenant paid late and didn't "get it"
As Tealady said, giving tenants their own housing benefits messes a lot of things up, seems a bit of a stupid system to me...is that just for private tenants, because they wouldn't give me that option (Thankfully), but to my sister they did and she is in private because the council waiting list is sooooo long!
Anyway, hope you have a good evening, just about to pack the children off to bed, then time for some peace and quiet...bliss!lol
You'd be very welcome here. Scotland is a nice place to bring up kids and it's still quite quiet. Our village looks straight over the Firth of Forth to Fife (say that when you've had a couple) so we're very lucky.
LHA is paid direct to tenants with Private lets. If you have a Council house they simply pay it from one internal account to another. Tenants used to have the option to have the landlord paid direct because it gave them peace of mind that the rent was paid. New rules (April 08) removed that option and unless they fill out an 8 page form declaring they are drug or alcohol dependent or mental incapacitated and can't cope with money AND back that up with medical and social work evidence then they must get the cash "to help them learn to be more responsible".
Once they are 8 weeks in arrears we can apply for it to come to us and they will stop direct payments. They missing 8 weeks is the responsibility of the tenant and we have to negotiate a repayment plan.
Its a dumb system set up by a woman who is an economic high flyer and has never seen the world outside uni or government. She hasn't a scooby doo about what handing £500 to someone in dire straights does - it doesn't mean they'll pay the rent.:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Time for a bit of CAB first tho (bet words like Muppet are verboten).
I can confirm that I'm not encouraged to call clients Muppets - except if Arrears Boy turns up and I'm sure they'll forgive one small transgression when he turns up with Jim Henson's hand up his !!!!!.:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Scarey night...Police popped round at 2.30am to say a prowler had been reported climbing the wall into our garden. Must admit I was only semi-conscious and not taking much in until I got downstairs then panic.
It brings it home too vividly that its all up to you when OH is at the top of the stairs and can't make it down quickly enough to see the Police. If it was a break-in it would be down to me. Think that explains why I didn't sleep well :A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0
