Thanks mate but I've definetly got the account. The letter told me I had an account, I had to phone up to activate and then go through some security questions and I've been on the internet banking site. I then got a text message after 11pm tonight.

Fingers crossed it works out for you mate.

Excellent, thats the !!!!!! I was hoping for but never materialised...... congrats on the account. Did you go for the CC and if so what limit/apr were you given?

I'd been approved a £6400 limit (lol) but you need to bank with them, this is where I fell short! Oh well....

I didn't bother with the CC, I've got 4 already! Maybe I'll try for one and do a BT once I've had the account for a bit. Got my Visa debit card this morning.

Maybe yours fell through because you asked for a CC also? Or do they simply say no to the CC but give you an account if they feel you're asking for too much?

The £500 od comes as standard....

Not anymore according to the First Direct website:

    http://www.firstdirect.com/1st-account/

    "....and a £250 interest-free overdraft comes as standard. ..."

    http://www.firstdirect.com/1st-account/overview.shtml

"a completely interest free £250 overdraft*** to help you manage your money. An arrangement fee may apply if you request an overdraft more than once every six months. Overdrafts above £250 will be charged at 15.9% EAR variable."

I've been a customer for over 15 years and I've only every had £250 overdraft. I did notice that they increased the standard overdraft to £500 a few years ago, but mine never changed and I never asked for an increase as it is very rare that I need the overdraft anyway. Judging by their website they have returned to the original £250 standard overdraft.

Mate they are £500 but that that means in relation to the above links is that the first £250 is interest free and from £250+ is chargeable.

It said on my agreement that the standard was £500 and did I want more, if so enter amount. I left it blank.....

I did read that they give you a £500 o/d but only the first £250 is 0%....

    hope that explains it.... :D

I've recently applied for a First Direct current account, but after reading this thread, I have my doubts whether I'll get one now!

Well I thought that as well but when I rung i'd been preapproved a high limit so I doubt it, I assume they went purely on my HSBC behaviour score then checked me as normal upon return of forms and that is where I fell short......

I'm waiting for them to come back with better news regards my appeal :-)

Just to let you know First Direct said nope, try in 6mths (cannot appeal a decline on credit score) - so that's that then!

I'll let you know in 6mth what they say!

i applied a few months ago for offset mort and b/a and got declined due to my defaults (the ones i knew nothing about!!) ive rung them today as British Gas have now removed both defaults (thanks once again NID!;)) and my credit score is back up to excellent.
I've explained this to them and have asked to reapply and are going to get back to me but from your above post i'm not too optimistic....can i not appeal if they say no as it wasn't my fault?
