I'm on the phone to First Direct now regarding my current account application as I was credit checked yesterday (form already signed and returned). They said it's been passed to their review team. There wasn't a yes or no yet. :(

Edit - my mobile died as someone from the applications team was going to 'get things moving'.

    UGH!!! Hopefully they'll ring back.

Edit- They phoned me back. The guy said he can get everything done today, he just needs to ask a few questions. When he finished, he said the account would be opened today.

I'm hoping this means I've been accepted. I can't login to internet banking at the moment. It's telling me there's an error and to try later. :(

Excellent news mate - what kind of things did he ask you?

Usually when you cannot log-in it is when they are adding accounts lol - you never know... you may be lucky

Did you request c.card and overdraft too mate?

He asked do I want my direct debits/standing orders switched, and whether I wanted the £500 overdraft. I told him I put no overdraft on the application. He said he'll change it so it's £0 overdraft (I don't want an overdraft). I didn't request a CC either.

I'm still not convinced. With 58 searches, and a decline from Barclays and Halifax, I cant see how First Direct would accept me.

I can log back in now, but no 1st account. :(

Did you use your HSBC account as the 'switch' account as well? Sometimes (ive heard) they will continue with your inetrnal HSBC score - that said, I had a great score and they declined me, but then I did have 2 x cifas last may!

Its now been 8 months so i'll apply in Feb once they drop off....

Bummer regards to first account, I applied for their e-saver in hope that they'd do what you got lol, we'll see..... but I am hoping if I save a grand a month for even 6 months it will help me overall....

Lets see if they open it first. I have a feeling that it will still be declined.
  • One month on, how do you like them then? Do you have an overdraft and credit card or refuse the option for those? ;)

    Hi NID.

Have to say they are fantastic, definitely agree with what people say about them.

Agree about the internet banking being a little dated, but it's worth putting up with it for the service.

I was offered overdraft and credit card. Only took the OD though £1000.

Don't they charge you £10 if you don't use it?
They must be having some problems today as I can't login again. :(

LOL, you're not multi logging in are you waiting for the new account to appear?

It will show (if at all) after the 1500 update won't it? you'd have thought....? :p

Did you have a cut-off time before which you'll ring back? And I don't mean like 10 minutes after he put the phone down lol...... also, did you ask if it was likely to be declined or what? ie. has he said it will definitely be open by the end of the day or did he say it might be subject to additional checks?
