Thanks Linda the 165 underskirt looks massive bit scared sure you know what you're saying though :) are there any other makes that are worth looking at? Im guessing less layers may be not as outstanding but i did try it on with a 3 layer and it seemed ok? I'm only a newbie tho!

Do you or anyone else have a guestimate on a good money saving price/site/shop for the Jupon 165 new or second hand or any alternatives? (and how to tell if it's the real deal!)

    Thank you again:A

It does look big but I do have one here and with the weight of the fabric of your gown, it will pull it in a bit. Also, the moment you start to move, this will fall in too.

    Hi Linda

I'm reallysorry for bothering you but i was wonderinf if i have bought the correct petticoat for my dress

I have the sottero & Midgley Raye Dress in ivory pewter

    http://www.sotteroandmidgley.com/dress.aspx?style=VSM7095

have bought myself this petticoat before seeing this thread

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-hoop-2-layer-Crinoline-Petticoat-Underskirt-UK-/370160632172?pt=UK_Wedding_Clothing&hash=item562f4b016c

Is it the correct one if not what one should i get as i cant afford to get a jupon petticoat...

    Thanks

    Steph

Hi Steph. The fabric in this gown is quite light so your petti will be fine for the shape. HTH x

Golly am sooo glad this thread has bumped up!

Linda am hoping you can help as the dress shop I bought from have been less than. Sorry this is a long and confusing one...Pics of dress are found here including one of me in it from the time I collected the dress. Sorry no pic of me in the dress with the petticoat I have been given by the shop which is bigger. http://www.flickr.com/photos/59375015@N06/5432698831

I have eternity D2145. Confusingly there are 2 depictions of it - one more trumpet style and one more a-line. I have a large bust so the dress was ordered to accommodate this and is more a line on me but I prefer the trumpet style. The shop sold me Jupon 163 but it much bigger than the petticoat I tried it on with when I collected the dress. Problem is I feel like such a sausage roll when wearing it and my legs get tangled up in the net - I think there is way too much of it and it doesnt look like when I collected it (pic shown of rear view). I am thinking they should have given me 168 which after calling the jupon head office is simply one layer of net less and can easily be removed but am worrying that if I do this it will still be too much net for the dress. I have been thinking about it and if we remove the stiff upper layer the dress may sit better and have a bit of movement. Or should I go for a different style petticoat?? I cant see one for dresses in between mermaid and A line though.

I emailed eternity and the shop I bought from responded saying its up to me I could either wear it with a petticoat or without. Not very helpful. Eternity have since put a picture up of a real bride who is clearly not wearing a petticoat and it looks ruddy awful. I have a local dressmaker doing the alterations but appointment not until end of March and in the meantime I am getting very stressed about it!

I hope you can help (and I wish I still lived in York so I could have come to you in the first place!).

A 163 isn't really right either. Too much going on at the hip area and looking at the images everything is pretty smooth at that area. It's not a big skirt at all and you want to display it without filling it.
I'd suggest a 168 which is great for fishtail.
The problem is with photos is that models are standing still. The moment you walk, the dress falls close to your legs so you need something to retain its shape.

  • Hi there

Another one needing some help please! :)

Have bought my dress, Pronovias Galante, and lady in shop said i'd need a 'spanish 2 hoop' - had a google but can't find anything.

Can you point me in the right direction please as to what i need to look for! (shop sells for £80 so i'd like to find a cheaper one)

    Thank you :)

Thank you so much Linda! I can remove one layer of net from the 163 so it becomes a 168.
  • Ooooo useful thread.

Anyone know what I should wear under a Maggie Sottero Trina?

The shop is recommending one hoop. I was wondering if I could wear something without a hoop?

I'd take the hoop out first before taking scissors to it. At least you can reduce the width and then sell it on afterwards!:D

If it's this then I wouldn't have a hoop. You need the 'kick' which is what this skirt is all about! Get a 189 fishtail. Obviously my thoughts so go with what you feel or what you try on. xx

You can actually get pettis with trains but in the age of the bustle you can often see the petti underneath when applying this.
Again, duchess satin can be quite weighty especially with a train so if you simply want a net petti then go for a 153. A 168 won't give the skirt the support when you walk about.
I'd go for 1 hoop. This defines the skirt below the net and is great when you walk. A 163 will give you enough fullness without 'filling out' the skirt!
