Seem to be a bit of a worry so here are my tips.
If you have a nice full skirted cream puff type of gown (ok, your traditional meringue) what you should be looking for is a petticoat which will support the fullness of the skirt. There is really not much point in buying this type of gown if you don't want to show off the skirt.
Petticoat example. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IVORY-NET-HOOPLESS-PETTICOAT-CRINOLINE-UNDERSKIRT-SLIP_W0QQitemZ160333942767QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Wedding_Clothing?hash=item160333942767&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1685%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 Now, beware. This doesn't have a nice soft lining against your legs so eventhough they state "3 layers of Tiered STIFF NETTING over 1 layer of 100% QUALITY nylon lining to prevent scratching to legs" it CAN still play havoc with your stockings (if you intend wearing them)In addition, it can be a bit uncomfy when you sit down because you are sitting straight onto net! However, at it's price, it's a good buy.
Something a little less full ie an empire gown which needs a little support would suit something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FULL-LENGTH-LONG-IVORY-SATIN-NET-PETTICOAT-WEDDING-PROM_W0QQitemZ310140636499QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Wedding_Clothing?hash=item310140636499&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1685%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A2%7C294%3A50 ok, this is mega bucks but you get the style.
This can also suit a bridesmaid.
And don't forget, if you have a train, you'll need a petti with an added "tail" to lift it slightly at the back.

Hope this helps. xx

Hi Linda,
Sounds like you know what you are talking about when it comes to petticoats! My dress is quite big and layered at the bottom, and I think the first petticoat you mentioned would look best.. I just wondered what your opinion would be?
Here's my dress..
Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Danielle0 -
What a super dress!!
Lace has a knack of being quite "weighty" especially in a gown like this. The first petticoat will be ideal. Defo stay away from hoops as the bones can "grin" through many fabrics.
It depends what your budget is. There are some good ones on here http://www.thebridalwearcompany.co.uk/store/productdetailone-wedding-petticoat_JP153-item-431.htm
http://www.beverleywedgwood.co.uk/html/underwear.html style 122 or 128 and 163 look good too.0 -
Thanks
That's such a great help as I didn't really have a clue where to start with petticoats! Haven't really thought about budget yet, but they seem pretty reasonableI really like the look of the beverley wedgwood ones.
Thanks for your help, that's fantastic0 -
Another petticoat questions if anyone can help.. a lot of the petticoats I have seen (most of all style 128 on Beverley Wedgwood!) are of a free size.. they'll fit anywhere up to a size 18. I have been told that these will be too big for me as my waist measures 25", and I'm only 5 foot tall!
The people at Beverley Wedgwood have said that I should be able to find someone to alter it for me, but do you think it is worth the risk? Would there be any chance of it getting ruined? Or, does anyone know anywhere that has smaller petticoats like the one on Beverley Wedgwood?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks0 -
Many are elasticated which would simply mean, shortening the elastic, or others are velcro. All this would mean is getting an 1" piece of velcro and stitching it to the petticoat.
Easy peasy!!0 -
ahh yeah, sounds much easier than I thought it was going to be!0

Jupon 189 is going to be the only thing you will be able to get away with. Anything else is just too big. You can also buy a detachable train from jupon to hold out the train if you wish.0
