Ooh, I'd love some advice too please if you have a moment?

I've ordered a Maggie Sottero Davida dress - in the shop I tried it on with a hoop which was good, but I'm a bit worried about actually sitting down in it.
I know you said that a M.S Adelaide could get away with a 168, but is this too slimline for the Davida? Sorry, I have absolutely no vision when it comes to imagining what the dress would look like with different slips underneath

I don't want the dress to be too flouncy, but I definitely want it to hold its shape and not fall flat.
    Thanks!!

and woohoo- that was my first wedding-related post, how exciting!!

i went for the adelaide and your dress (very pretty by the way) looks a similar cut. i was planning on not getting a hooped petticoat for my dress but then i remembered that's it's a fairly heavy material and with out the hoop the dress might not sit right.

when i tried it on both times i didn't have a petticoat at all for one and found it hard to move with the dress that flat. the second time i had a simple petticoat with a single hoop at the bottom but that didn't feel comfortable while walking.

i ended up getting a jupon 163, which has 3 layers of stiff netting and a hoop placed just below the knee height. i haven't tried it on with the dress but i got the hooped one just incase the dress material might be a bit too heavy just for the netting itself.

it's a pity there isn't a place you can hire out petticoats (or maybe there is) so you can try different ones on with your dress and see which one suits.

sorry if this hasn't been any help and confused you more :rotfl:

Thanks Gandy! I think I'm going to have to see if I can rent a couple of petticoats to try on, or maybe take the dress with me to a shop and have a bit of a dressing-up session if they'll let me.

I get what you mean about the heavy material - it's annoying because the heaviness makes it sit perfectly on me, lighter dresses just didn't look right, but you're right in that it might go flat without a bit of support.

I'll check out the Jupon one, thanks again!
Lead me not into temptation - I can find it perfectly well all by myself :D

just to say the 163 that a bought it actually pretty full with out the hoop, the three layers of netting sit very well when i try it on by itself but i'm not to sure how much volume i'll have when the dress is over it.

that's why i decided to go for one with the netting and the hoop so that i can either wear it with or with out it. a better safe than sorry approach you could say :rotfl:

I'm trying to find a petticoat without a hoop to wear under this dress (its the Mori Lee Blu 4163)...

    http://www.glamourousgowns.co.uk/shopdata/show.php?dress=1253

I've tried it on with a double netted hoop and like how it looked but I'd really prefer to have petticoats and would be prepared for it to be slightly less 'big' to be able to have petticoats.

Hi Amy. Jupon only seem to do a 153 which is 3 layers of 3 tier net. That should give you plenty of fullness without the hoop. HTH x

I tried a borrowed petticoat which had one hoop two layers tulle? and a satiny layers as well wioth elasticated waist not sure if it had a tummy panel)which made it so much easier to walk - I didnt take a picture and there was no name or details. Ive seen a few on second hand sites but I'm a bit stuck in terms of what I am saking for to check it's the right item without trying it on! Many thanks for anyadvice on how to grab a bargain:cool:

It's going to be a heavy duchess satin so will need to display skirt without distorting it.
    Jupon 165

100% nylon, lycra waisted, ideal for the fuller princess line.
5 layers of fully flared net, with 1 hoop.
Finished with a 1/2" lace hem.
    hth x
  • Thanks Linda the 165 underskirt looks massive bit scared sure you know what you're saying though :) are there any other makes that are worth looking at? Im guessing less layers may be not as outstanding but i did try it on with a 3 layer and it seemed ok? I'm only a newbie tho!

Do you or anyone else have a guestimate on a good money saving price/site/shop for the Jupon 165 new or second hand or any alternatives? (and how to tell if it's the real deal!)

    Thank you again:A

Golly am sooo glad this thread has bumped up!

Linda am hoping you can help as the dress shop I bought from have been less than. Sorry this is a long and confusing one...Pics of dress are found here including one of me in it from the time I collected the dress. Sorry no pic of me in the dress with the petticoat I have been given by the shop which is bigger. http://www.flickr.com/photos/59375015@N06/5432698831

I have eternity D2145. Confusingly there are 2 depictions of it - one more trumpet style and one more a-line. I have a large bust so the dress was ordered to accommodate this and is more a line on me but I prefer the trumpet style. The shop sold me Jupon 163 but it much bigger than the petticoat I tried it on with when I collected the dress. Problem is I feel like such a sausage roll when wearing it and my legs get tangled up in the net - I think there is way too much of it and it doesnt look like when I collected it (pic shown of rear view). I am thinking they should have given me 168 which after calling the jupon head office is simply one layer of net less and can easily be removed but am worrying that if I do this it will still be too much net for the dress. I have been thinking about it and if we remove the stiff upper layer the dress may sit better and have a bit of movement. Or should I go for a different style petticoat?? I cant see one for dresses in between mermaid and A line though.

I emailed eternity and the shop I bought from responded saying its up to me I could either wear it with a petticoat or without. Not very helpful. Eternity have since put a picture up of a real bride who is clearly not wearing a petticoat and it looks ruddy awful. I have a local dressmaker doing the alterations but appointment not until end of March and in the meantime I am getting very stressed about it!

I hope you can help (and I wish I still lived in York so I could have come to you in the first place!).
