Can you direct us to the quotes on this thread where anyone said that the changes were for the benefit of buyer experience?
I think you are forgetting that some of us are regular ebay users and understand that ebay is a business and do things for their own purpose. It is the newer sellers, or those who are rather more naive that think ebay do things out of the goodness of their heart.
However, how many threads have we had in the past where buyers have been stung with 'excessive'postage charges which they failed to read and where they want 'ebay to do something about it'. Maybe they pressed their point to hard and ebay did that something.
I have said on other threads that whilst some sellers continue to try and get clever with postage costs it is playing into ebays hands, and the next thing we'll have is 'free' postage rolled out across the board to stop those sellers. Rather like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've given up on both. I don't want to pick a fight with an idiot and lose on experience.
Though it is like shooting fish in a barrel, which is quite amusing.

Cyril, you have misread what Soolin put. She didnt say, "insist that the seller removes the charge or threaten him with a neg", she said and i quote
ie, if the seller insists on making the charge, and going through with the transaction, then neg them for breaking Ebays terms and conditions.
Thats not blackmail
i didn't miss read at all, but what soolin was advising was that the op, having bought the item using buy it now, and therefore agreed to pay the charge that was stated in the listing should now neg him unless he agrees to drop the fee.
It's irrelevant at this stage whether or not money has changed hands and the seller is still being blackmailed.
The op agreed to pay the price in the listing, postage charge and all and is now saying, "let me pay less or i'll neg you"...sounds like blackmail to me and soolin supports this action in her post stating, "She would have no problem negging him".
Also the defence of the neg is for breaking ebay rules is lame, you could have just reported the rule break without attempting to benefit from it, which as i said earlier is where the line between dutiful ebayer reporting the big bad rule breaker and conniving little scammer is crossed.0 -

Totally agree with you on this - i think you might have wanted to quote Cyril, not me..

How odd, I was sure I was told on an earlier thread that I shouldn't be going round reporting random auctions

How to spend a quiet afternoon while listing books...hunt out DVD auctions where sellers are adding charges on. I don't usually bother as that sort of selller tends not to last long anyway, but hey..it's quiet here, care to join me in a spot of reporting?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Buyer buys item that has 'Postage and Packing = FREE' in the postage category.
Seller then invoices buyer for new amount with postage and directs buyer to small print in confusing listing.
If SELLER demands payment for full amount including excess postage is made, then this is not the BUYER blackmailing anyone. The BUYER may then chose to leave feedback based on that experience.
If BUYER demands that SELLER reduces price 'otherwise i will neg you', then that is blackmail.
Please reread Soolins original post, and decide which best applies. :rolleyes:0 -
