DVD Free P&P Seller Adding Postage After Auction End

The idea is that you start the auction or offer the BIN that INCLUDES the P&P in the price.
Nobody needs to make a loss - but there are plenty of people that seem oblivious to that. There is no such thing as "free" - it's inclusive. Those that can not fathom out how to list a DVD with inclusive postage do not deserve to be on eBay.
Infact - If anybody wants a free house, genuine offer, just pay me £185k for a doormat, and the house comes free with it. Is that not a house for free?pippitypip wrote: »but I'm not the most knowledgeable on the rules etc.
Indeed.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
What i am against and think we should be careful of is advising people to pounce on rule breakers and exploit them via feedback blackmail, as this constitutes a scam and we should not advise scamming on this site.
What's up with "stay clear and report" as opposed to "buy and exploit"??
Cyril, you have misread what Soolin put. She didnt say, "insist that the seller removes the charge or threaten him with a neg", she said and i quote
If he insists on the extra then I would have no problem in negging him and reporting him to ebay.
ie, if the seller insists on making the charge, and going through with the transaction, then neg them for breaking Ebays terms and conditions.
Thats not blackmail0 -
Ok, no need to jump down my throat, however if you want something to shift and therefore offer a low starting price, I can understand why some sellers are starting to do this.
Personally I've listed dvds and they haven't sold at higher prices, and listed at 99p and they have sold, so I make effectively a loss. I'm not a business and I won't be selling any of my dvds that way again and have never charged p&p after the fact either.
I was just saying I can understand it and personally don't think it's fair to not be able to charge p&p, the wheres and whyfores surrounding the rules however are another matter.
pippitypipI know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok - they know me here!

Pgilc1 - some people are only reading what they want to read, and interpreting to their own bitter agenda. Some people just do not have a clue at all about how to sell on eBay within the rules.
I've given up on both. I don't want to pick a fight with an idiot and lose on experience.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

So why not have a starting price of £1.99 instead of 99p? Thus the pound or so to post is included? Then if it doesnt sell you havent lost any money?0 -
What alot of the people on here who claim to be ebay experts fail to realise is that ebay have no interest in forcing free postage on sellers for the benefit of the buyer, Ebay are not so stupid as to think that sellers will not just add the cost to item price, plus an extra ten percent or more for the extra fees ebay will now take.
Ebay are forcing lower and free postage on sellers to generate more revenue for themselves from final value fees. That makes the "buying experience" worse as things generally become more expensive.
This is due to massive loss in revenue and plummeting share prices over the last year.
Don't be so naive as to think ebay put the "buyer experience" before their bottom line.0 -
Trust me, most dvds won't and don't in my experience sell at that price. You lose out on listing fees and wasted time in the end.
I've only tried once since this rule came in with 3 brand new dvds and it wasn't worth it.
So all I was saying was from my own experience and I get why the seller has done it - I'm not condoning it and wouldn't ever request a buyer pay something additional after the sale, even if my own mistake - that's the way the cookie crumbles.I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok - they know me here!

This is nothing to do with what is fair and what is not, businesses generally are not fair, they are there to make a profit not to win a best friend award.. Ebay say that seller must no charge postage on DVDs, that is not open to interpretation, it doesn't say 'unless they feel they want to be clever and try and hide it in the small print that they will impose a surcharge later'.
What you have done is the absolutely correct thing to have done, you feel the terms and conditions are unfair so rather than break them you have chosen not to sell. If all sellers used that logic we wouldn't be here having this conversation.I'm not a business and I won't be selling any of my dvds that way again and have never charged p&p after the fact either.
Thank you, I hadn't intended to cover old ground as it is obvious that only certain bits of my posts are ever read. However, I always advocate contacting the seller first, it might even be a mistake, only if that fails should feedback be considered.Pgilc said Cyril, you have misread what Soolin put. Can you direct us to the quotes on this thread where anyone said that the changes were for the benefit of buyer experience?0 -

If your business model doesnt allow you to make money via the new rules, then you did the right thing by stopping trying to sell them.
The wrong thing would be to try to circumvent those rules as the seller has done in this case.0
