  • I love mine...my life has been a lot easier since we bought one in Feb.

    I use it for:

    chopping onions and similar veggies
making thai chicken cake (gets the spongy texture)
mixing my hm lamb koftas and sometime burgers
    breadcrumbs
    mixing certain cake mixtures

The main thing is the mixing of meat into things such as koftas and thai cakes as it is hard to achieve by hand and I refuse to make anything ready made.

i haven't had the chance to make bread etc since i got it, but intend to over next few weeks!

I've recently invested in a Kenwood Chef as I found that due to deteriorating psoriatc arthritis I couldn't use my food processor and several other kitchen gadgets easily, and now am able to do many things I thought I'd never do again. It makes cakes, bread, pastry, blends, slices and grates, peels potatoes and other root veggies, and I'm considering buying the juicer/citus extrator attachment, and the ice cream maker. I find it much easier to use and clean than all the other seperate gadgets, and though a bit pricey I wish I'd bought it in the first place. I now have to find good homes for all my redundant kitchen aids and have freed up lots of cupboard space. I used to use my processor for many of these jobs but found cleaning it a a pain and almost lost several fingers using a mandolin! Lots of nice soups and salady things are back on the menu chez frankiep's now

I agree about the chef thing. I have had various things over the years and finally after a prize win (3k on golden balls on itv-i love my competitions lol) I finally treated myself. the one I have, has a food processor attachment as well as being a brilliant mixer and liquidiser.

However for smaller amounts it isn't as good, which as there are 6 of us is not too much of a problem. i have the grinder attachment which does coffee/sugar, but for small amounts of chopping or whipping I struggled, in the past i had a stick blender and before that a mini mixer so was looking at those and had seen those magic bullet ones on tv. I fancied the bullet, but they were alot of dosh for what they were. Then last week OH saw it on offer for £30 and as we had just had some arrears of tax credits he got me one as a treat.

Been making iced mocha coffees and lattes mmmmmm, and milkshakes/smoothies for the kids in it. I also mad my own tuna/majo pate in it which is yummy.

One persons "waste of side space gadget" is anothers "life saver use everyday item".

I love my kenwood and so far my magic bullet is a brill addition for those small amounts-plus it has a juicer with it.

I use mine to make breadcrumbs with the ends of nice loaves, mix muffins and a few other general jobs.

DH uses it to slice potatoes for gratin type dishes. Occasionally we'll make a batch of coleslaw this way too.

The most use it gets though are days when I am doing a batch cooking day. I use it then to chop onions and garlic, and sometimes ginger into that as well (depends on whether an Italien or Indian day). Then I chop the veggies to "hide" into small bits, and the tins of tomatoes get a blitz too (I use whole toms and chop them myself as I prefer plum ones). If I'm making lasagne, I usually get a pack of bacon lardons and chop those too to add to the beef mince.

I bought it the day I had bleeding knuckles from trying to grate less than 1/4 of the green tomatoes I had to process in a hurry. And while it may not be the best used machine in the world, I do find it useful for lots at times and it has a handy spot to hide but get at it easily.

That's a point about the potatoes. My friend was painstakingly slicing potatoes for dauphinoise - when i showed her it in the food processor she was delighted with the even little slices all perfectly formed!!!

Strangley our new kitten is sleeping in the box the magic bullet came in lol.

I made iced lattes by mixing either cold filter coffee or so instant mixed in water (I just put a teaspoon of instant with a teaspoon of sugar and a splash of water-i mixed quickly with a spoon until mostly disolved, just a quick stir as the mixer finishes off. I added cold milk and a few ice cubes and blitzed.

Haven't tried a hot latte yet but would imagine you nuke the milk then add hot coffee and sugar if you take it, then have a quick pulse to mix.

For a mocha coffee i just threw in a spoon of hot choc powder with the coffee/sugar mix. Milkshakes are fab I put a spoon of icecream and milk, plus ice if you like it really cold mmmmmm. Just got some proper Heches choc sauce from Aldi (you know those big american bottles) so going to try a milkshake with that later, or may add a banana for a choco smoothie ;).

I used to have a kenwood chef multipro which I loved but then the motor burned out one day. I wasn't able to find a new base so ended up getting rid of the left over bits as DH went out bought another one. I don't like the new one. It feels left handed and just is very hard to use.
I will buy another kenwood or possibly a magimix or kitchen aid one when this one evnetually dies but the law of sod dictates that it'll go on forever because I hate it!

I would like the recipes for the dauphinoise potatoes please. Also, what were you doing with green tomatoes? I spent some time looking for recipes last year and couldn't find any so had tomatoes trying to ripen on the windowsill for weeks on end!

We opened the box of our Magimix on Sunday - so very exciting!!! We bought a huge bag of Value carrots to blitz and had great fun! (We live a sad life.)

An interesting idea in the manual was to use the grater for boiled potatoes - theoretically giving you mash - going to try that one as I can't make mash! (Daft I know!) and blitzing them with the blender is supposed to be bad - but I can imagine the grating is similar to a potato ricer?

Not made any proper edible food in it yet, that's tomorrows job! Now I just need to decide what, I've borrowed Jamie's 30 minute meals to help me! I think I might make a proper bolognese.
