Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

  • I use tesco hand blender which comes with a mini chopper processor type thing. A bargain. Got mine for £9.99. I use it for sauces, whisking, and chopping mainly.

I have a cheapo food processor and I use it 4-5 times a week, mainly just the blade and grater attachment. It is a kenwood and was about 25pounds when I bought it, now it's about 35pounds. It is a very basic model and I don't regret buying it at all- a more expensive processor would probably be a waste of cash, although I do sometimes have to process in more than one batch!
I think I have this one:

Oh and a processor makes very short work of pastry!

i used to use it lots.... till I got fed up of washing it out and decided it was easier to wash a knife and a board (used to use it a lot for chopping veg, onions etc), or a bowl and mixing spoon, then it got relegated to the cupboard where it rarely comes out. The blender attachment used to be used all winter for soups..... but recently I got a hand blender with a little choppy pot attached. I'm always too hungry/tired/impatient to wait for it to cool much to put in a blender anyway, now I have less washing up as I shove the hand blender in the saucepan and whizz :)

The hand blender with choppy attachment and hand whisk are what I use most. And they take up less room in the cupboard. Plus they are much easier to clean as they are smaller and so fit in the top of the dishwasher much easier.
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • The only thing I use mine for is making dough. For that, I love love love it. But the faff of dismantling/cleaning it means I just Do Not Bother when it comes to prepping veg, I'd rather do it long hand. I use a stick blender for soup.
  • I'd second the use of a stick blender, especially for soup. However, when I really need a processor, such as when I make chutney, or even banana cake, nothing else will do.

On average, then, once every two weeks.

I use mine about once a week, blending soup or mass grating! I'd use it a lot more though if I had counter space, but I have to bury it in a cupboard and its such a faff to keep getting it in and out

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's been put of using the processor because of the faff (or fear of faff in my case) of cleaning it! :D
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  • I use mine most days - it's a Kenwood compact one with a blender and a bowl that both sit on the same base, and a smaller bowl that fits inside the big bowl as well. There are loads of other attachments that I barely use mind you. I've not got a lot of work surface but it doesn't take up much and I use it enough to justify keeping it out.

I hardly ever use the discs because it's quicker to grate or chop by hand (might be worth it for large quantities) but I use the blades to chop up onions because they make me weep so badly even if I put them in the freezer first. I make houmous in it a couple of times a week (so cheap!!) and it's great for pastry. I make dough in it then finish kneading by hand, and I use the blender loads for soups & juices. Oooh, and I did use the juicer attachment last week when my local Tesco was selling off oranges at 9p each. :D

I've tried cake mixes in it but prefer my hand mixer for that.

I got it as a gift and wasn't sure what I'd do with it, but now I'd really miss it. Totally covet a Kenwood Chef though. :rotfl:

Tbh I don't really find it a faff to clean..... as long as I do it straight away, just a quick dip and a whisk about in soapy water and it is done. But I have noticed I tend to use it MUCH more often now it has a special alloted space and isn't just stored in a jumble at the back of the cupboard so I think that space is a HUGE consideration when buying!
