Food Processor - What you really use it for?

I would love a modern-looking stainless food processor, but realitiscallyaccept that it is not spending so much money on something that I don't have sufficient space for, given that I would only really use it to make super-fluffy cupcakes!
I have an electric handwhisk (essential for soups and smoothies), the motor can be used to operate a mini-chopper, shredder and binder - none of which I ever use as it is easier to do this by hand.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

and I use it very, very often. this is our secod though, the first kind of wet kablammy. not sure why, I'd put everything in it to process, plugged it in and it gave a loud pp and started pumping out smoke until I unplugged it... but Tesco were very good about swapping it lol.0 -
Hi suns is out,
I don't use mine very often as it's a pain to wash up. I much prefer to use my stick blender and my cheapie mixer.
This thread has lots of posts on how much others use theirs:

I'll merge both theads together later once you've had more replies.

I have a cheapo food processor and I use it 4-5 times a week, mainly just the blade and grater attachment. It is a kenwood and was about 25pounds when I bought it, now it's about 35pounds. It is a very basic model and I don't regret buying it at all- a more expensive processor would probably be a waste of cash, although I do sometimes have to process in more than one batch!
I think I have this one:

Can't make pastry without one (hands are too warm). Have a really strange double bladed 2 speed TurbiTwin which takes up no space but does what I need. Can't be doing with all the graters, slicers or squeezers.Truth always poses doubts & questions. When I had one (it self destructed about a year ago), I used it quite often for the jobs that take it out of my hands -
slicing veggies, making coleslaw, slicing onions for freezing, and number one - buying big blocks of cheese and grating them for freezing.
I would use it for pastry, cakes and anything else now I have the worktop space for one in the new house - before it was always a bit of a faff.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I bought a kenwood A701 earlier this year and it gets used pretty much every day since I bought it, sometimes multiple times. I paid about £80 second hand (it's an old model from the early 1970s) for the mixer itself with dough hook, whisk, k-beater, a glass jug blender and slicer/grater attachment. I wanted something that would make cooking quicker and help when my tendonitis is making it difficult to use my hands.
This summer the blender has been used almost every day to make lemonade. I use the dough hook a couple of times a week for bread too. I also make pastry/scones with the k-beater and cakes/batter with the whisk, I do also always grate cheese with the grater. I like that it's a table top mixer so I'm able to set it running and go do something else. The washing up factor isn't bad with the kenwood either, I think it's really no better or worse than using hand utensils.
I don't think I've discovered all the useful things it can do either, I keep finding new stuff to do with it so I hope to be using it more in the future. The price was low because it's very old, but I didn't worry about buying such an old model as they're apparently pretty reliable things, plus spares are still widely available and I'm pretty good with electrical stuff and can do soldering and parts replacement. The kenwood is really very simple inside.0 -
Ooh Ben, what's your lemonade recipe?0

Wow, thanks everyone for all the replies!
I think a new toy may be in the offing.....0 -
Hi the suns is out
I rarely use mine unless I am doing a large batch of something as it's such a pain to wash up and I rely on my stick blender and cheap supermarket mixer much more.
You appear to have decided to invest in a food processor but this thread may be of interest to you:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the advice in one place.
