Competitions Discussion Thread Part 10

I notice that a lot of people ask about how often you might win when entering competitions and that a lot of the replies talk about the number of competitions entered.
Obviously the more comps you enter the more likely you are to win. But the key factor is the odds of winning any individual comp. Can anyone point to any reliable stats about the number of entries which are received by particular comps? I know that comps with tie breakers and local ones tend to receive less entries , but again I would like to see some actual numbers.
I have just joined this forum and about a month ago started entering comps regularly after a long break. In the past i did a lot of postal comps, and always focussed on those with tie-breakers. I once won a holiday to Spain from Athletics weekly magazine and also won a trip on North Sea Ferries through my workplace ( the latter had a very small number of entries for various reasons and I ended up with nearly 20% of the entries!!)
I was lucky recently in that a couple of weeks after starting to enter comps again I received a hamper in the post just before Christmas - six boxes of luxury porridge. I have just enjoyed a bowl whilst looking at the snow swirling outside.0 -
