    Hi Peeps...

Dont buy online, decide on the specification of your PC then phone Dell and haggle.

I phoned in October 05 when I needed a new desktop PC. I spoke to a guy called Mustafa in a far flung call centre and haggled a £1110.00 PC down to £719.00.

Dont get too excited, part of the reason for that huge discount was that I chose not to have the 19" TFT Monitor, they knocked off £160 for that. (BTW, you cant select a "No Monitor" option online).

The other £230 discount was just politely haggled down.

    The custom made Dell 5150 machine I recieved 72 hours after placing my order is v. fast and almost silent;

    3.2 Pentium4 HT
    2 gigs Dual Channel RAM
    256 PCI-Express ATi Graphics
XFi Creative Labs Sound Card (Amazing sound reproduction with quality speakers)
    160 gigs SATA Hard Drive
    DVD ReWriter
    Seperate CD ReWriter
    Floppy Drive
    Keyboard & Wireless Mouse (Crap)
    Windows XP-Pro
MS Works 7 & other software

2 year Next Business Day (NBD) Gaurantee... (again, this 2 year gaurantee isnt an option online, theres only a 3 year NBD which sells for £141.00 - I paid £23, YES... £23 for a 2 year NBD)

    + Free Delivery.

Next time your after a PC Dell may well be worth a phonecall.

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

    Mark.
I did'nt push her... she fell.

thanks but no luck. i just called them and they instantly told me the laptop you guys have been buying for £289 and that i wanted is no good for email on the move and it will be useless in 6 months - he then offered me a laptop at twice the price... sales tactic? why sell a wireless laptop if you cant really use for email on the move!? maybe he was making commission on sales!

This is simply rubbish. This laptop is perfect for wireless internet browsing and e-mail. Granted, it's hardly a desktop replacement machine but if all you want to do is a bit of internet browsing, check your e-mail and maybe a bit of word processing, then this laptop is perfect.

Just politely tell your call operator that you are perfectly happy with the product you've decided upon and don't want to upgrade it.

It's not in their interests to sell you a bargain price laptop as they receive less commission. When the original offer was on, most people were having to sit through 30 minutes of being offered upgrades.

This is exactly the type of tasks these laptops were specified for in the first place and any sales rep that says differeint is either dishonest or an idiot. People seem to forget we were all browsing the web on far less capable machines just a few years ago.

Usually a new offer every Thursday. Current offers run out on 29/3

In saying that, I've very rarely seen an offer like the two recent ones, even from Dell. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a while before they put a deal like that on again.

I reckon they'll probably have another big clear-out of all the single-core processor laptops they have around June/July time as dual-core processors start to take a hold, even even in the laptop market.

i was put through to a call centre in india and the sales rep was not at all convincing when he told me it was no good for email on the move. even his chuckle sounded sooo poor. anyway, even after i gave him the evalue code of the laptop you guys managed to get it was not at the price that you got it so i didnt feel it was worth buying, especially with that service!
