Just had another look at these deals and here for what its worth is a summary.

The basic deal with CDR/W DVD combo and no WIFI has disappeared and
    N03135a and N03135b are discontinued.

There are 7 deal codes I can find which build on the base code of N03135. Of these I think there are two pairs of identical offerings with different codes and in one case substantially different prices (please post correction if I have missed something with these specs). The prices of each code are different in some cases if accessed from Home or Small Business systems this seems to be down to whether free delivery is offered.

The codes in order of increasing spec are (prices given include vat and delivery and have been adjusted to 90 days collect warantee).

    N03135 Home £348.47 small Business £288.47
    1.5G Celeron M
    256 RAM
    40G HD
    14.1 Screen
    8xDVD R/W
    WIFI

    N03136 Home £399.12 Small Business £339.13
    512 RAM
    15.4 Screen

    N03132 Home £410.08 Small Business £470.07
NB Don't use this code upgrade from N03136 Small Business for £392
    512 RAM
    60G HD
    15.4 Screen

    N03132a Home £445.33 Small Business £445.33
    N03136a Home £499.00 Small Business £439.00
    1024 RAM
    60G HD
    15.4 Screen

    N03133 Home £586.33 Small Business £586.33
    N03137 Home £588.99 Small Business £588.99
    1.7 Pentium M 735A
    1024 RAM
    80G HD
    15.4 Screen

I hope this helps to identify the best deals for which I have used italics against each code.

MonkeySpanner - there is definately something strangely addictive about Dell's ever changing pricing policy and juggling of specs.

Thanks for taking the time to summarise the current state of play.

I think the N03132 with the bigger battery offers the best value for money deal at £422 including VAT and Delivery via the HOME section:
    Celeron 370, 512mb RAM, 60Gb HD & 15.4" Screen, 8X DVD +/- RW

Yes, I'll have to go cold turkey. incidentally you can get the spec you mentioned by using N03136 in the small business section and upgrading HD and battery. Works out at £404. Couldn't resist that!

I must admit I didn't believe we would get this but I have just rec'd the PDF confirmation. Deliverys 29th , a bit long but worth the wait. I hope.

Cheapest way to get 1GB is to get 2 of these :-

Personally, I wouldn't touch a Dell laptop unless it was given to me. Ebay can be very good for decent but older/reconditioned laptops, although I would advise buying from a merchant as private sellers maybe trying to get rid of a machine that is on it's way out.

I've had 4 laptops from new to old & my best buy was a reconditioned T22 IBM which I bought on Ebay for £220 2+ years ago & still works like a dream as T series IBM's are great machines unlike Dells.

Drawbacks of older laptops is USB ports the T22 only has one, but otherwise a great machine that was made to last & holds it's money if I wanted to resell.
