Ask the PRS if they cover royalties for ALL music artists. The answer is no. Then ask them which artists they cover, they will refuse to answer.

Sorry, but I won't pay for a licence that doesn't tell me what it actually covers. If you play the wrong music, other music royalty collection services will charge you.

If they won't tell you which music they cover, it is a scam in my opinion.

Off to number 10's site now...

Keep bumping the thread dCodd mate ;) We will get there in the end......In the meantime feel free to listen to your radio MINUS the headphones ;)

Thanks marleyboy: really need to let the PRS know that they can not make the judgement regarding the application of the law and we want the Government to take responsibility for ANY perceived abuse of the laws they make!

    Yes. Duh.

That is the point of the whole thread.

If you PLAY your radio in public you will be charged for PLAYING it.

No one is charged for LISTENING to it.

Does this go for people playing the radio loudly (and annoyingly) in their back gardens on sunny summer afternoons, deafening their neighbours?

And what about people playing the radio loudly (and again annoyingly) with their car windows down as they drive around town?

They say they do their job to ensure that all the correct musicians are paid royalties.

My partner is a musician and basically only the 'big' stars get payed, so they are not such an amazing organisation as they do not ensure the correct musicians are paid.

    Bitterwallet like the PRS...not.

They also note the previous posters point that the PRS will not publish the names of the artists they represent which seems rather odd.

I'm actually a member of the PRS, and rank them alongside TV Licensing in their paranoid way of operating (anyone ever tried to convince TVL that you haven't got a TV?!).

BUT - I'd also clarify that they don't actually collect money on behalf of artists, they collect for the song writers - which often aren't the same people. The artists who perform the songs are paid in a completely different way (and also get much less). So they probably can't tell you which artists they 'represent' because they don't actually represent them.

I'd also say that really do pay everyone (who's a member, obviously!) - not just the big stars as mentioned above. I've recorded a few songs and managed to get them played on the radio. And I'm now awaiting my first payment of a whopping £40 in royalties. These are PRS royalties only because I wrote the song - NOT for performing or recording it. It's only pocket money - but it's nice to have!

Mind you, I also play in a covers band, and have been subjected to their petty attitude towards those too, and radios are banned at work too. I can't see how this would apply to talk-only stations though - you'll just have to get Radio 4 on and hope they don't play any music written by a PRS member :-).

They do a useful job - but they've also got a _serious_ attitude problem.

An honest reply dafad_dew thank you.
I would urge you and any one else who is a member or supporter of the PRS to sign the petition too, clarification can only help all concerned and hopefully stop wild claims by PRS and allow everyone to be able to make an informed choice! then your income may increase if PRS didn't get so many peoples backs up and played fair!!!
