my contract has been up for a while now, it expired in february, but they had already put me on a reduced rate that didnt end til april so i left it running as i also wanted to wait for for the nokia n95 to come out.
anyways, i rang up last week for the pac code and was offered a deal but said i could get better so could they send just send the code out. this was the 4th call to them discussing upgrading or leaving.
i then received a phone call from them yesterday asking why i was leaving and what deal i could get elsewhere, i told them i could get 750 mins, 750 texts and the the n95 for £70 on a 12 month contract.
they then offered me 500 mins, 500 texts with stop the clock and the phone for £50 for £35 per month. obviously not as good a deal.
i told them i would think about it and he just said ring them if i want to take i out, obviously i want a better deal than this.
whats the next step i take, will i have to ring them and tell them the offer is not good enough and will they negotiate or will they ring me again??

Nearing the end of my contract with 3, received a plague of calls inviting me to renew, get a new phone , etc etc. Since I liked the phone I have, I asked for a new one of the same model - they said they no longer supplied it. I said I didn't fancy any of the phones they were offering - kept plugging - long story short, I ended up keeping my old phone, and getting a years contract for 500mins/100txts anytime/anynet a month with 10 months free, leaving 2 months @ £30 = £60 for a year ! Result ! And I picked up a good condition, unlocked phone of the model I wanted on ebay for under £50 as a spare.

I am with Vodafone and my 18 month contract was due to expire. I decided to change from contract to pay as you talk so wrote a letter informing Vodafone of this decision. A Vodafone rep rang me a day later to say they would give me the exact same contract I was on currently (and paying £45 for) for a mere £10 a month for 9 months and £20 a month for 3 months! I also bargained with them for a free upgraded handset (the very latest Samsung phone) which arrived 2 days later!! This was an absolute bargain and all because I asked to change to pay as you talk. They are obviously desperate to retain customers on contracts so don't be afraid to haggle!0

Just a note to let people know that its definitely worth trying to batter down your contract.
The company I work for on a self employed basis recently told me that they would be taking back the company mobile that they were providing me with and instead would pay me a monthly allowance for me using my own phone.
Although I've had my contract with Orange for up to 10 years it has been on their lowest tariff (with no extra call charges)for at least the last 5 due to having a company phone so didn't score well on the historical front.
Basically I badgered them every day for a week over the phone, and also visited the shop and eventually got handed over to someone in 'another department' who gave me a top of the range Nokia (N95) for free, unlimited text messages and 2600 minutes a month for £35. More than I will ever use.
As I was prepared to sign a contract for £70 a month for around 1200 minutes I'm more than pleased with what I got out of them with a little perseverance.0 -

surprised it took so much work, I just called them, said I was keen on the o2 contract with 600min plus 2000 min ( Sat-Mon) / lots of texts and straightway she offered me the 2600 min / unlimited texts at £30 pm on some phones ( which I took) or £35 for higher phones
this is for my son, which is great as orange normal tariffs don't generally meet his needs
For my phone with o2 (CPW) they just agreed new phone and 50% auto cashback credit .
Not as good as a new cashback tariffs but should be less hassleAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
I have been out of contract for 4 months and have not upgraded as there wasnt a phone that I wanted. I am re-imbursed by my company for the monthly bill so the contract didnt bother me either. As I travel alot, I spend over £100 a month on average.
I called Orange today to ask a.) for a new 12 month contract and b.) A new phone (SPV E650). I was told point blank that Orange do NOT do 12 month contracts anymore, and they will only give me a new phone if I take out an 18 month contract. I pointed out that I have been with Orange for over 4 years and my monthly spend of over £100 but to no avail. Eventually I got fed up and asked for my PAC code as I wanted to go to another network.
I was re-directed to disconnections that would ONLY offer an 18 month contract (to be fair the contract was better than the normal 18month contracts by about 10-15%). When I pointed out that they have 12 month contracts on their website, he said it was ONLY for new customers!! Eventually after haggling I decided enough was enough and that if couldnt give me the 12 month contract then I was moving. The chap on the other end of the phone tried to persuade me that other networks are only doing 18 month contracts!!! I pointed out that T-Mobile/Vodafone/3 will all meet my needs and as I was currently looking at their websites I was sure that they offer 12 month contract. There was no answer to this!!!
Needless to say I asked for my PAC code and will be off to T-Mobile. So much for loyalty!!!0 -
T mobile @ C P W
Just to let you all know to be cautious if thinking of getting a contract phone with these people. CPH could not match the tariff that i found on the web a day after my daughter getting her contract phone + they said she could not cancel the contract with T Mobile as its part of their terms and conditions - out of pocket - you bet she is !0 -
There is a way round the theory that renegotiating your contract is a "one shot deal" and that mid term renegotiation doesn't work.
I was with T-mobile, paying £60 per month for a tariff I could get for £30 with O2, and which T-Mobile were offering to new customers for £30.
I called them up and asked for my tariff to be reduced to £30 to put me in line with their rivals and their own new customers. I was told this was not possible. I asked them about cancelling my contract and they said, as I had 9 months left on my contract, cancellation would cost me £540.
So I asked how much their cheapest tariff was - it was £12 per month.
I then asked, if I were to go immediately on to their £12 per month tariff and then call up and cancel the next day, what my cancellation charge would be - I was told it would be 9 x £12, so £108 - so saving myself £432.
I then poiinted out that by doing this they would be losing a customer and £432, and I could switch providers and be back in pocket, with a brand new phone, in under 4 months.
Fortunately I happened to be talking to a grown up who understood the sense of what I was saying and reduced my tariff there and then - mid term.
So they CAN do it if by not doing so they will lose out.0
