  • O2 story: coming to the end of contract. Currently paying £35 for 1000 texts and 400 mins. Told them I wanted to leave to T-Mobile PAYG (good deal at the moment). O2 rep made me an offer which I rejected right away. They then made me a second offer for £15 for 900 texts and 200 mins plus new phone. Nice! Going to pick the K800i (silver edition) and sell it on eBay for anything between £250-£340 (going on previous auctions). RESULT!

Now, one question! I make a lot of international texts but only to one number and it's an American number. I asked if they could include this one number in my free text allocation and they said there was nothing they could do. Is there any room for further haggling here? Has anyone got O2 to agree to any international texting deals?
  • I'm an O2 contract customer and last january rang up to say that I wanted to upgrade to the Samsung Z320i phone, as I was impressed with it in the showroom. The 1st guy I spoke to said that the phone was available at an upgrade cost of £80! Thanks I said, and hung up. I ang back, mentioned the same, and the rep told me the phone was out of stock (O2 do this a lot i notice in the past!) I then rang back a third time and told them that I wasnt happy paying to upgrade a phone that was 'free' on new contract! The guy told me they would 'sell' me the phone for £80, as the system wouldnt let him give it for free, but would half my phone bill from £30-£15, for the same package! Worked out much cheaper! They did start charging full whack about a month or two into contract, cos apparently I hadnt said I wanted a 3g/i-mode contract, and these cost more. I said this was unsatisfactory and that I was not informed when given the offer, and they credited my account over £100 in 2 months, and I only paid £1 and £9 in a few mnths! All in all, a good deal!

The year previous, I told them I would cancel the contract and go to Orange cos the phone was free, they gave it to me quick enough after hearing that ;)

This year I'm tempted to go for a phone which isnt advertised on the O2 web site or in store, on the same price plan. What do people think my chances are of getting this (Nokia N93) and keeping my half price line rental? Any tips from O2 employees?

iv read the article and dont understand how this works, i am currently with o2 through e2save cashback, so when my contract runs out who do i haggle with, o2? if so does this mean i then deal directly with them and dont have to go through the whole cashback thing?

    thanks
  • Was on a very reasonable £17.50 12-month contract for the past three years, which gave me 500 Off Peak minutes and 500 texts. Only reading here did I think that I deserved more coming to the end of my contract!

Called once, made up an offer from 3 which gave me a w850i upgrade plus 400 any time minutes and 500 texts for £25 a month. The retentions guy said the best he could do was 250 anytime minutes and 1000 texts for £25, and the phone would cost £50. I told him I would call back after I had 'spoken' to 3.

Called back the day after, said I had now found an Orange deal (which does actually exist on onecompare) for £21 for a free w850i, 400 anytime mins and 500 texts. A long pause and then the guy offers me 500 anytime mins, 900 txts and a free w850i upgrade for only £20 a month! Which is £5 cheaper a month, £50 cheaper for the phone and twice as many minutes as the day before.

I salute any one who can push them further than this!

i hope you realise 500 x net min and 500 txts with free phone for £20 p/m, is still alot compared to what you can get via cashback deals, but direct from provider its still reasonable.
  • Well I am on £25 a month for 100 mins and 500 txts and phoned O2. Best retentions could offer me was £25 for 12 months for 500 mins 500 txts and the N73 for £99. I said I could get it better and she asked if I wanted the PAC code. I said I'd phone back. Bit dissapointed.
  • I'm in a bit of a strange position in that I bought a phone in 1998 and a "contract" with what was then One2One and is now T-mobile in the shop on the same day.

I was a giddy lightheaded lass then and don't recall any time period being mentioned either on the contract or by the shop assistant and I've not renewed since then.

My phone bills have been escalating for the past few months, I text a lot and am paying £60-80 on a tarriff of £17-50.

I want to clarify the position re the "contract" but is it worth it? I really need to cut down the monthly phone bills though so will try this approach with them.
  • Hi, Anybody there can give some advice on the unlimited on vodafone where 4 people can talk 'unlimited' for £5.00? Must be a catch somewhere! too good to be true!!! also NTL has join forces with Virgin and is offering free phone, 300m 300 texts for £10.00 a month with no contract?.
  • Hi! sorry but what is a PAC code? have been on vodafone all my life! do you need it if you change to another network? thanks
  • Hi Alex, if you are on NTL telewest, it has join with Virgin, and offering free phone ( you can still carry your one in your pockets and sell the new one!!!) 300 texts, 300 mins for £10 a month with 'no contract'. Anywhere now you can have MUCH BETTER DEAL than the one you have. Wish you luck! yolanda
