O2 upgrade last year was great: offered £100 for not changing handset and 1/2 price line rent (down £30 to £15 for 200 min and 500 txts) Was worried upgrading this time as I can't afford more than the £15 now with my DFW plan!
First call fortnight ago, was offered same deal - great, but wanted to check out new phones on offer first. Sooo...
Second call today to renew and pick a phone. Told the original offer no longer valid and will only give me £25/m line rental and £50 cashback for not upgrading phone and had 'no record' of £15/m line rental agreed with previous advisorHung up pretty annoyed.
After research tonight on net to see any better deals, spoke to third person in 'Cancel your Contract' option who was much nicer and agreed to match my current £15/m, and offer the £100 or phone. So I've taken the new phone! Hurrah!
So I got what I wanted, but I wouldn't have persevered if it wasn't for this thread - so thanks to everyone who has posted! It's also taught me to arm myself with a better deal (found on net) and just to go straight through to cancel that contract!
I owe you all a :beer:0 -
New upgrade from Vodafone:
Old deal: £25 for 125min & 100 texts on a 12mon contract.
Just got: £25 (inc VAT & itemised billing) for:
225min & 100 texts, plus Stop the Clock, Vodafone Passport and Vodafone family plus a new Sony Ericsson K800i and 1gb sony memory card for the phone on a 12 month contract.
Also, re-negotiated for my mum a £9.99 per month for 75min including Stop the Clock (speak for up to 60min using just 3min from inclusive mins) and Passport.
Biggest tip I learnt is that you can negotiate an upgrade 60 days before your contract is up, so it then sort of turns into a 10month contract. The vodafone person I spoke to also told me how the retentions department works, they basically have a certain amount that they can spend on each customer depending on their monthly spending to entice you to stay. I sort out my mum's bills for her and as she's happy with the cheapest, simple phone, it means there's more I can negotiate for in my contract.
I know this deal isn't the cheapest when compared to cashback deals, but Vodafone is the ONLY network that has coverage where my holiday home is in Dorset, so even though I threaten to leave them every year, I can't yet! I just go throught the script of asking for my PAC code to leave and you are always directed to one of the more senior staff it seems.
I'm very much a MoneySavingNovice, but learning loads from all you lot,

Seems like they are tightening their belts a little.
I've been with o2 several years & was paying just £7.50 a month for 250 x-net minutes last year.
My contract is up & I've phoned up to basically get the same deal again, but have been told that is not available.
Best I can get is £15/month for same contract and a Nokia 6233 thrown in.
Opinions? Should I wait till later in the month and hope the offer reappears?
Or should I just take what I've been offered?0 -
Can you give me the number you used for this department as i only have the customer sercices number.
You got an excellent deal there, I am on o2 and my contract runs out this month.........think I might give O2 another go !!0 -

On TT600(600 xnet work+100 texts) so wanted same deal but with W850i phone.
First time rung offered TT700 half price for 3 months and free phone.
Second time rung couple of weeks later offered TT700 half price for 3 months and phone for £49.99. Tld the person its a worse deal than prevoiusly offered and told the deals changed today.... erm.#
Anyway thought about this for a few days looking at deal around so decided i would cancel contract and get new one with 3 via cpw TT700 12m contract half price for 11m and free phone.
Rang 3 to cancel explained been with them for 4 years and they were offering me nothing to keep me..........offered TT600 12month deal no phone for £72 total making it £6 per month from £30 a month. Ok no new phone but i can use the upgrade i got last year which i havnt used yet.
Not a bad deal really......0
