Just rang T-mobile to see if I could neg a good deal. My 18 mth contract ends on 12.08.06. The guy I spoke to in the dept that is suposed to deal with those "thinking of disconnecting" was unhelpful and borderline rude. Slagged off a number of companies' cashback deals and said that T-mobile could not tell me what offers they could give me as I had to ring on the 12th of July when they could tell me what they would be prepared to offer. AsI had to give T-mobile 1 month notice of terminating my contract - I would have to confirm on that date whether I wanted to accept their offer or leave. Impression I got was I could sling my hook.

I was polite etc. Am I doing something wrong? HELP
  • I thought 11 months of my 12 month orange contract were up today - in fact it is next monday.

I rang orange and told them I wanted to give 1 months notice to end my contract so I could move to the flext tariff with tmobile. They offered to match that on both lines on my account which I was happy with however the range of free phones I have been offered is very poor. My fiance and I both have SE K750i handsets and each phones we were offered was a lower spec model.

Does anyone know anything about flexibility on the side of Orange here? there is a shop near me in brighton who have a reasonable range of phones available on flext and will give an IPOD, PSP or XBOX 360 for free if I sign up on an 18month contract.

I would rather stay with Orange on a 12month contract if they can offer a half way decent handset - can I do anything to push them?

I've been on a 12 month contract with Orange since August 2005. Its a cashback deal and I paid around £110 line rental for two lines on a Family Plan. I got a single phone a Nokia 6230i (which I've recently dunked in water and now just says Insert SIM) I was getting about 400 cross network minutes and the other line about 200. For the remaining 6 months I downgraded to 120 mins and 60 mins (anytime/anynet) which still costs about £50/month in line rental. All in all I have paid Orange a LOT of money however I got a HUGE chunk back in cashback so the inconvenience of paying all that upfront wasnt too bad.

Now Orange themselves have been calling me up about renewing and upgrading my phone though I am a bit suspicious because the guy sounds foreign and often cannot even retrieve my account details. Initially he offered me 500 mins for £19 and a mediocre phone Nokia 6822i. After some MSE style haggling (Thanks Martin) and "discussion with his manager" he's now offering the SE W810i 250 mins (anytime/anynet) 75 texts for £15/month. I didnt want so many minutes but needed texts as previously I had to buy bundles.

Considering the £100's Orange have made from me do you think this is a good deal? Can I get better? Even lower line rental or perhaps a better phone like K800i?

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I don't think it is orange calling you.

Call Orange from your mobile on 150 and talk to them...

when i came to negotiating my contract with Voda, i initially spoke to their retentions dept, but found them to be not that helpful, so I searched on the Internet and found email address of the CO for Voda in Uk, and emailed him telling him of the crap job his employees where doing at keeping me as a Voda customer. Anyway Voda have a special dept setup to deal with such customers, and I was given the following deal:

500 x-network deal + 1000 sms+ stop the clock and i got the Nokia 8800 for £100 at that time on a £30 per month tariff...

the only downside was i locked myself into an 18month contract, which I can re-negotiate in October/November..

Ps if your having problems with Voda email this add:

It seems so. I just called Orange and spoke to somebody in Retentions and the best he offered me was 500mins (anytime anynetwork) 100 texts for £25/month and the W810i free. £20/month would only get me 150 mins (anytime/anynet).

Nobody had heard of the guy that I spoke to last week either. I also enquired about the upgrade price of the K800i but I was told it wasnt currently available for upgrade customers and couldnt even give me a price. I would need to call back in the next 24-48 hours to get an update.

Orange were dreadful, why would you offer an existing customer a worse deal than a new customer? It simply doesn't make sense!!

  • I just called O2 disconnections and got myself a cracking deal!!! :T

I was on 200 x-net mins and 100 texts for £30, and was spending much more than this every month. So anyway, I gave them a call and said in my nicest and smiliest voice that I'd been looking at other networks and fancied a change from O2 as I thought I could get a better deal elsewhere. Before I could say much more, the very nice lady came up with a tariff that I have never seen advertised before - I now get 500 x-net anytime mins and 300 texts a month for £20 on a 12 month contract. Yay!! And I get a brand new Samsung E900 delivered to my house in 7 days time!!

I am so pleased as I always thought I was rubbish at negotiating better deals for myself! Thanks Martin for all the advice!!
  • Hi, there is another problem apparently not yet addressed: how to negotiate with someone several thousand miles away whose English is literally perfect but appreciationo of intonation deficient? For example: I am near the end of a contract with 3. They sent me as an upgrade a Sony Ericcson K800i, a deal at a net of £15.31 per month for one year, at 500 minutes anytime, 100 texts. Except I do not need an all-singing, all-dancing phone. I was quite happy with my Nokia 6630.Three's alternative deal on the Nokia - £30 per month. Pressed further they offered £25 per month for 200/200 - or I could keep the K800i. I neither need or want the latest MP3/Radio/Blog phone (frankly, too complicated and ruined by endless 3 ads runnig across the screen). I realise upgrades are the name of the game - but not everyone wants them. Nor do they necessarily want to have an upgrade as a condition of a chearper tarrif. All I want is a cheaper deal using the phone I already have (it is not even a year old). Is there an answer to this conundrum?
