is it the standard maestro (white colour) card, but with a £250 cheque limit on the front????

How did you get it? Did you have a £100 cheque limit first?????

    Subject>Bank Accounts
HSBC>Mr Morgan has joined the contact.

    HSBC>Mike has joined the contact.

Mike>Good afternoon, my name is Mike. How may I help you?

Mr Morgan>Hello Mike, can you tell me, what Cheque Gurantee are available
    for your Maestro debit card?

    Mr Morgan>The standard card

Mike>You are through to Direct Financial Services, a maestro card has a cheque guarantee facility for £100 as standard.
some customers may be offered a chance to upgrade to a £250 guarantee but this isnt generally available do you have an account with hsbc at the moment ?

Mr Morgan>Yes I do, I have a maestro card that has a cheque guarantee facility for £100 but would like the £250.

Mike>you will need to phone telephone banking on 08457 404404, thay will take you through the details of your account and see if a higher guarantee ammount is on offer for you

Mr Morgan>will I have to upgrade to a Premier Bank account?

Mike>the premier account comes with the higher rate as standard, you do not need to be a premier customer to have the £250 offer available on your account.Iif you were invited to apply for a premier account you would recive the higher limit as part of your premier package.

Mr Morgan>What are the requirements to get the £250 offer available on my account?

Mike>you will need to call telephone banking, if it is on offer on your account they can order it straight away . if it isnt already on offer for you it might not be available on request, as they are the department who action the upgrades you would need to ask them

Mr Morgan>but what is the eligible certeria ?????? Do you need a internal rating of a 100 of something like that???

Mike>direct financial services doesnt action these requests so we have no details on the criteria.
as i advised you will be able to get information on it by calling the appropriate department. if the offer is already available to you they can do it straight away, if not you would have to ask them if it is possible to request it if it isnt on offer and what the criteria may be

OK. So then you called the phone banking people and asked them if you could get one/the process involved?

its just the standard card (white/grey with the world map on it) with a gold £250 limit on it.

i *think* that they just issued it when my account changed from a student (£100 limit) to a graduate account. so yes i did have a smaller limit first.

tbh i've never questioned it, i just assumed that it was a standard.

(though saying that i have a second current account with them which i only have a £100 limit for so maybe its because my wages get paid in every month)

Do you know your internal HSBC rating for the £250 cheque card?

no idea i'm afraid - sorry!

i've held the account since 1992 so they probably quite like me :)

Are you a higher earner, or holds lots of savings with them?

no savings/isas with them - they aren't competitive enough for that :D

most of my money gets siphoned out from this a/c just after payday to other accounts (joint a/c for house running costs) and savings elsewhere.

a little of my wages stay in the account for monthly costs such as car, student loans and petrol, but there's certainly not a lot for them to make money on!

i am a reasonable earner, i'm over the 40% tax threshold anyway

i know in theory i should have a more up to date 'main' bank account but since it recently took me 7 weeks (yes seven!) to open a cahoot current account and they employ call centre muppets, i'm enclined to stick with hsbc (even with their overseas call centres) as they don't mess things up and are nice to me. :o

i also feel a certain loyalty to them as they have never ever charged me for unauthorised lending which was invaluable when i was a student ;) and when i have an out of the ordinary spending spree they always phone me to check my card hasn't been stolen :D
