Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Definitely grate everythng, I grate an onion and an apple or as much of it as I can before it gets annoying to carry on into a pack of pork mince and add some grated carrot too and some rubbed sage. I just add the amounts that look right and it is always fine. I do have a burger press but just shape into patties will be fine. I sometimes add finely chopped red pepper if I remember or have any lying about looking lonely. These go down a real treat and if made with fresh mince can be frozen if you don't want them all just now. Although I used to make mini ones and cook them then freeze for when DS was ickle and that worked well too. I also use the same mix for meatballs but like to keep these quite small so they cook throughout easily.

    aye..... now,.. I did it!

so I grated the onion and the apple and got me hands in to the mix!
    *it was squidgy*

then I put a flat pan (maybe a frying pan) on to a low light and squidged it into about 16 small patties. I filled the pan they wer not tidgy ikkles, anyhoo, fryed them off, no extra oil.........nowt. The I turned then probs 3 mins each side, I turned up the heat a little and browned both sides, I then left till cold *well I sloped off to the pub* but as easy as owt I reheated the pork nd ratatouille and put some noodles on.

    Damn fine!

    Thanks all

  • Hello all hope you are enjoying your evening,

My sister gave me some frozen pork mince the other day. Have been looking in cook books but haven't come up with any good recipes. Ideally I need something I can bulk up or cook lots of and freeze for when I need something just to grab from the freezer.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Try pork and apple pasties perhaps.
Just add some apple, chopped onion, potato and seasoning to the pork mince, if it's supermarket mince I would cook it off a little first as it will be full of water. I find it best to mash the potato as it will help to bind the filling and besides I hate chunks of potato in a pasty, use desert apples if you have any left around cooking apples are a bit sour for this.

  • Can I use filo pastry for the pasties?

If that's what you have then no reason why not, check the pack to see if it's freezable once cooked.
Another variation is to use up some chutney, a spoonfull or two dependant on the consistency of the filling. Pork takes well with lots of different kind of fruit.

  • I always use pork mince to make chilli or spaghetti, meatballs or shepherds pie I find it less greasy tasting & it's cheaper than decent beef mince.
