Conversely, I would not cancel the assignment. Email GAP again every day or so until you get a reply. IMO it's better for them to cancel the job, knowing the reason, than for you to do it and they may overlook your emails. Also, if you cancel it and someone else picks it up then it's a waste of that person's time too.

I agree - this is probably a better idea, because as johnny says they will know for sure then why you've cancelled and it will avoid somebody else having the same situation. And that second person might not bother calling them and might actually go there before realising the problem!

I wouldn't cancel it either. When you emailed them, what options did you use? Try 'other' and 'other' under the subject headings. I would just email and explain the situation, and ask how they want you to proceed.

Liking the new thread Timmne, especially the reminder about not being cryptic with client names. Thanks :)

mumtosix, try this link for RM:

I guess it's worth checking every month or so to see if vacancies are advertised. Will probably be mentioned on here as soon as people spot they're advertising.

Also, *cough* fees in your post! *cough* ;)

Thankyou. I've removed the fee amount - sorry, didn't think it would matter if I wasn't relating it to any job in particular.

I'm looking at it more from the posters P.O.V. - I very much doubt it was anything more than a mistake, and if I was that poster and had seen monkey's post I'd probably be offended and would probably never dare post anything again!

I agree they should have seen the "Alerts only" in the title, but perhaps they were just browsing around and the content of the thread title slipped their mind.

I just think angry outbursts are a little disproportionate, especially in relation to a new poster - just send them a polite PM answering the question and explaining about the difference between the two threads (which I have already done for the post in question btw).

Re the bit in bold, the poster would've had to scroll down the screen, and could not have possibly missed the big red writing AND the link that i include to the chat thread, but STILL proceeded to post chat on there, so to be fair, they're the type of people that I would hope never post again.

I'm going to get flamed for this, but hey, it's my opinion.

I'm not gonna flame you. You're probably right, they probably should have seen it. I can't be bothered, I don't really care about it that much, and more to the point, I don't want flame wars on here.

    Friends?

On another topic - you mentioned above you get txts on your phone when the alerts go out - I've been trying to find a service that does this and had no luck, any chance you'd divulge how you've got that to work?

    Of course!

RE the alerts to my phone, I don't text a text message, I get the actual email, here's how...

I'm registered on here with an email address from a major Internet Service Provider.

The "Instant email notification" alerts get sent to my email address.

I have a Nokia n96 that has email capability (as do a lot of phones these days). My phone automatically connects to my ISP's email servers every 5 minutes and checks for new mail. When I get a new email, the phone makes a noise/vibrates (depending upon which profile I've set it to, which depends upon whether I'm at home, in work, in a meeting, etc).

What mobile do you have, and who is your email with?

Oh, you're using the emails feature on your phone. I thought you were getting the email converted into a SMS message. I know how to have my phone check for my emails, but I don't have inclusive data and I don't want to pay the data charges.

Never mind, ta for replying anyway! :-)

BT Cellnet (as they were called back then) used to have this feature with their "Genie" service back in the day, wouldn't have thought it still exists now though.

FWIW, if you set your phone to only retreive the headers the data charges shouldn't be *that* much but don't come after me if I'm wrong...!
