Actually there is nothing stopping you negging him. Feedback is totally up to you if you feel he deserves a neg then you can neg him
Sorry, that may have been misleading, I didn't mean you can't as in not allowed, I meant it in well- you can't lol, I know what I mean, just can't think how to say it (if I were talking face to face I would say oh you can't do that - the emphasise is on the pronunciation of can't) -0 -
I am an ebayer seller and I overcharge my P&P by between 50p and £3 depending on the item.

I appreciate the replies from those of you have taken the time and trouble to understand the details of this. I hadn't realised that ebayers see upping the P+P as a legit way of making money. I'm not sure I agree with this but I can see why it gets done and understanding things from the seller's pov is a help.
There are some posts that have misunderstood the details but tbh I'm not up to trying to clarify things further, having a bad day.
There are some trollish posts here that I don't want to engage with so I'll sign off from this thread, thanking all genuine posters for your input.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

If they bid, they were happy to pay the postage as well. Otherwise they would have bought the item from different seller/shop.
The postage charge is obvious for everyone to see AT THE TIME YOU MAKE THE PURCHASE.

Exactly.
The item + postage = Cost
The cost hasn't changed. They were happy to pay that cost so why does it matter where it's come from? It doesn't!
Dripping for the sake of it IMHO.Terms & Conditions Apply0 -
Why is it such a big deal that ebay sellers overcharge on postage anyway?
Look on practically any website that delivers and you'll find 90% overcharge you for postage.
Very few charge you the exact amount appears on the envelope or parcel.
In most cases people estimate the cost and get it about right. It's pretty obvious when it's massively overstated, for example we all know it doesn't cost £5 to post 1 dvd by standard first class post. It's really not hard to avoid.
And if you're prepared to pay £5 for postage for an item from another country then you're prepared to pay £5 for delivery from a house down the street. It really makes no difference to you.0 -
Why is it such a big deal that ebay sellers overcharge on postage anyway?
- It gives some sellers an unfair advantage on search placement - people searching by lowest price can be easily duped.
-The sellers that do abide by the rules are subsidising them by payiong full fees.
-eBay lose out on Final Value Fees, so then they introduce compulsary free postage which raises the costs for everyone - buyers and sellers.
- If a buyer asks for a refund, more often than not they will only receive the purchase price, not the total price.
On the flipside, before the free P&P was put in place on DVDs, the buying market was happy to pay over £2 per disc as that was the average charge across all sellers. Even though they could be posted for 78p + 10p jiffy bag, my star ratings did not indicate that buyers were feeling ripped off.
As before though - it is well publicised BEFORE the buyer completes the purchase, and whilst there are people willing to pay over the odds, there will be people willing to charge over the odds.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Sorry but I would leave neg or natural the feedback isnt just about the item but the overall experience and the listing was actually incorrect as it stated it was in Ireland and it wasnt to begin with and the postage costs are terrible sellers should not be taking advantage and putting high postage costs to make a profit on the item. Thats why ebay is having to introduce set prices for postage and free postage because of sellers like this who ruin it for others, had the postage have been £2.50 or £3 then fair enough but a fiver come on. If i had seen postage at 4.99 i would have assumed the seller was posting special delivery0

What am I going to do? watch as your stars fall and then watch as ebay introduce more categories into their 'free postage' rules.
meanwhile I wil undercut your postage, get my items much higher up the best match search criteria and outsell you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
