OK - the great holiday debate.....well if I'm right you're not planning on funding the holiday by use of credit - correct? If you're looking to not only pay for it up front, but also to save an equal amount to the sumit's costing you to put against your debts, then I would say full marks to you, and go for it. Your kids will only be the right age to fully appreciate something like a Disneyland (I assume that's where you're heading?) trip for a short while.

I'm with Hypno on this. I have to confess to sometimes feeling my blood boiling over on the bancruptcy boards - people working out what they can "get away with" by basically telling fibs about their genuine expenditure. Years ago there used to be a great shame attached to bancruptcy - now while I don't for a moment think that people should be publicly humiliated for taking that path, I do think that perhaps people are now feeling it's to be taken lightly, and that's wrong in my view. I appreciate that there will probably be those reading this who object to my opinion - but I can make no apologies for it. A very close friend of mine has ended up bancrupt through no fault of her own - circumstances lead her down the road and she didn't have another alternative. She's not run herself into debt with gambling, or buying expensive goodies, but she's still bitterly ashamed of the fact. On the flip side, people who've got themselves into debt by short-sighted overspending combined with even shorter-sighted overborrowing seem to be more and more taking the view that "oh well, I can always go bancrupt, I'll be discharged in a year and that'll be the end of it". Another short-sighted view to add to the two that got them into the mess in the first place. MissKJ has taken the decision to go on the DMP and is now taking further proactive steps to get the debt gone sooner than her planned date (and good job too, all things considered!). I can't see a problem with a once in a lifetime holiday as long as it's not adding to the debts.

Ok - rant mode off!! ;)

Thanks combo81, well I see to have generated some debate on the issue if nothing else. Maybe if I can "have it all" it will show people what is possible. It certainly is a hard target, when combined with my "matched saving"for debt repayments. There are things that can go wrong, but i refuse to give up on this goal YET!

    Florida -20!!

It's your diary and they are your goals. You have linked the naughty goal to the saintly goal, and I assume this is the only big holiday you intend to take before 2133? ;)

    Hiya

    Lurker here :D

I absolutely adore Florida and would be happy never to go anywhere else on holiday again. I have it on my goal/motivation board & it does keep me going. So what I say is that it is a great big incentive to you and will probably make you much more productive than if you took that dream away.

Well thankyou folks! you are all right, I am only planning to go if i have SAVED enough, and equally saved for debt repayments. And have no plans for other holidays other than maybe very cheap short break that have subsequently been saved for. No actual PLANS until all debts repaid, which will be hard. My babies are not babies any more, and I won't command their full attention for much longer! The kids have agreed to forgo pocket money until the trip (bit harsh to accept in entirety but we will see!)

So all agreed then, we can go if we save and match save for debts.

well I figured out where my banking went wrong and paid the price in charges, learned from that one. Found a €10 note in a draw (will change in the week), cashed in some copper in a jar (£11.97) and found £5.60 in a coat pocket at work. So thats the charges back. Florida back to zero rather than -£20!

Signed up for bingo things, but havent figured what to do yet!
Putting in an overdue expenses claim at work tomorrow, haven't worked out how much but must be £150.00. Been too busy to fill the forms in!

Hi, I'm definately going to watch this one!!
I can understand exactly how you feel about the holiday. This year will probably be the last year we can have a family holiday( daughter is off to uni and son is joining the army). We cannot afford one though and it upsets me as much as being in debt does. If I can find a way for us to get a holiday ( I don't mind if it's in this country), I will.
    Good luck

Re the pocket money - run with it, and let them forgo their pocket money.....put an amount equal to it in a new "holiday spends" account so they can see it build up, and they can also appreciate that everyone has to make sacrifices on a daily or weekly basis in order that you can have the big holiday that everyone will enjoy and benefit from.....

Unfortunately, cash is very tight at the moment and by the end of each week I don't have very much left :(
I am trying to put what ever I can aside in the hope it can be used for something like a holiday.
I do have a diary, I don't add to it every day though. Am going there now!!!

Oh my goodness I feel ashamed:o. My daft OH has obviously said too much to his poor ageing mother who is now worried sick about us and sent over a bag of food and a cheque for £50.00. She is going away tomorrow, so there is an element of clearing out the fridge, but added some frozen stuff and tins. Poor love is on a pension, and has a lot less coming in than us. I wish he wouldnt worry her, but that is like saying I am not allowed to tell my mum stuff.

OK folks, already have my meal plan, but can't waste bits of fresh food. I have some ideas with these ingredients ( not counting frozen items) but I would like to see what you can come up with!

    tomatoes
    broccolli
    onion
    eggs
    carrots
    cheshire cheese (small piece)
    blue stilton

tins include red salmon, corned beef, soups, peas etc.
