  • About to phone them to UPGRADE my policy to fully comp, wish me luck! Just need to find a phone number now & get an answer from somone!

This is your fault confused dot com as you sent me there !! I should have stayed with More Than insurance, they were soooo professional & friendly BUT 1st Central were £15 cheaper UNTIL they hit me with a £50 adjustment to my policy which INCLUDED a THIRTY POUND administration fee!! Total waste of time this mob of incompetents, still don't know if they recieved the NCD proof I e-mailed to them! Hey - I might not even be insured ! Lol SCAREY THOUGHT !!

Dear "Mr Insurance Obudsman" please sort out this rabble & keep your trade professional & reputable ????
  • Hi all,

i've had a nightmare in the past few weeks.

I took out fully comprehensive insurance in january with this lot, like most people i took it because it was the cheapest quote on the comparison site i used at the times.

I never did recieve policy documents which was my major mistake not chasing up as it meant i never read them but i did recieve the direct debit mandate and the email confirming my cover so i thought no rush.

Anyway i had an accident last month whilst driving my fiancee's car, it was my fault apparently, i say that as i have no memory of it all.

Turns out i wasn't insured to drive any other car so now i'm in a hell of a lot of trouble and to be honest scared to death.

I've emailed their customer services team twice asking for assistance in this matter as i would never have taken it out if i had known about the lack of cover but have had no reply and when i rang them today they gave me another email address (customer relations) to try.

I know i was slack in not double checking everything but i now feel like a criminal through a genuine mistake and whats made it worse is even the policemen said i wouldn't trust that lot with a bargepole they have caused loads of problems.
  • I had first central insurance for a period between July 2010 and February 2011. As a lot of you have said they were the cheapest quotation i received and i proceeded to take out fully comprehensive insurance. I had absolutely no problems with them at the beginning and when i changed my car in september they could not be more helpful. I unfortunately hit a severe pothole and cracked my windscreen in January. Within 3 days of notifying 1st central the AA fitted my replacement windscreen. My tax was due for renewal in January and thats when my issues with 1st central started. I tried to renew online and i was told on the directgov website my vehicle was not insured. I contacted 1st central straight away and was told my policy was definitely in force. 3 days passed and i taxed my car in the post office. 4 days after speaking to 1st central i was pulled over by the police on my way to work at 5.30 am. They proceeded to tell me i had no insurance showing on the motor insurance database and unless i could prove otherwise my car would be seized. After trying several numbers at 1st central nobody was answering any lines and the police were getting eager to conclude the issue. I eventually managed to prove my policy was in place thanks to my partner bringing my certificate to the roadside. I contacted 1st central the minute i got to work and had a rather heated conversation with the operator who promised my details would be added to the database within 5 days. 3 weeks later they still did not appear and i cancelled my insurance. Within this 3 weeks i was stopped a further 3 times for flagging up on police ANPR as having no insurance. To this day nobody at 1st central has apologised. I will never use this company again no matter how cheap the quotation is.

My fiance bought car insurance from 1st Central a few weeks ago after doing a check online to see who were the cheapest. My fiance's a new driver so any car insurance is going to be enormously expensive, 1st Central quoted about £1200 and the second cheapest was just under £2000 so a massive difference. Anyway he phoned them up and they picked up almost straight away, he said he's received a quote from them online and he wants to accept this quote. They then said the insurance is going to be £100 more than the price quoted even though we received the quote on the same day a couple of hours before calling them so he argued that and eventually after 45mins or so they gave in and sold the insurance at the quote price. The deposit money has been taken from his account but after a few weeks he still has not received any insurance documentation through the post. He did try calling them a few times about a week ago to check he was insured but gave up after no one from 1st Central picked up the phone which isn't at all good considering these phone calls are costing us. To be honest though, it doesn't matter how much you pay an insurance company, they're all the same - one of the biggest scams going.

Use ASKMID to ensure the car is insured. (If not, don't drive it till it's resolved)

Then pursue them daily to provide your documentation

I took out car insurance with this firm yesterday, documents have not been e-mailed so I have tried to phone them 3 times- each time I have given up after 15 minutes.

    *******
I have finally spoken to someone - They had the wrong e-mail address.

Documents delivered ,have't checked them as yet

I'm grateful to earlier posts- I know what to look for when I check them later.

Without doubt THE WORST company I have ever dealt with. Every time I ring up I am on hold for at least 20 minutes then the phone just hangs up. I have stopped calling the "customer service" 0843 number as I refuse to pay just to be put on hold. Now I ring the "sales" freephone 0800 number I insist on being transferred to customer service, yet am on hold then someone puts the phone down on me. HOW DO I GET TO SPEAK TO ANYONE !!!!!

Basically, I took out insurance with them last year and did it online so never had to ring anyone so over the year everything has been fine. I renewed my policy last week as they still came up cheapest, and I didnt expect any problems. However, over the last week I have received 3 different emails demanding my proof on no claims bonus for last year......................even though I was with THEM last year !!!

I have sent 5 emails to them giving them the above information and asking someone to reply to the email or phone me on my home number, but I just hear nothing !!!

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR !!!!!!
  • hi, am new here and also insured with 1st central, insurance due to expire end of June. Today I was driving my partners van and a car colided with me from the rear on the motorway. 1st central told me that I'm not insured to drive any car but my own even though both vehicles ,mine and the van were insured fully comp'. I had no idea and have read my policy inside out and can find no mention of this exclusion. They have referred me to Kindertons, but am really worried now about what will or wont happen next. I would never have used this company if i knew that DOC is not part of the cover provided within a fully comprehensive policy. There must be hundreds of peope out there unknowingly uninsured by this company.

Although you were driving uninsured, you say you were hit in the rear which is usually the fault of the vehicle behind, and if this is the case you can claim directly from the third party/their insurer.
